Description

A recorder in a power bank housing that runs from a standard AA cell, which is the point: when it runs down you swap the battery rather than waiting on a charge. Up to 300 hours in record mode.

8GB of internal flash, WAV at 192kbps in mono, and intelligent noise reduction across a 100 to 10,000 Hz band. The built in microphone works to about 10 metres, and voice activation stops it recording silence.

Features

Runs on a replaceable AA cell: The one thing that matters on a long job: when it runs down you swap the battery instead of waiting three hours on a charger. Up to 300 hours in record mode.
It is also a power bank: The housing is a working portable charger, which is why the cell is where it is and why it is an ordinary thing to have on a desk.
Intelligent noise reduction: Filtering across a 100 to 10,000 Hz band, which is the range that speech actually lives in.
Microphone to about 10 metres: Enough to cover a meeting room or a workshop bay from one position.
Voice activation: It records when there is sound and idles when there is not, which is what turns 300 hours of runtime into a long deployment.
8GB and earphone playback: WAV at 192kbps to 8GB of internal flash, with earphones supplied so you can check a recording without a computer. USB transfer runs at up to 7 Mb/s.

Applications

Where It Works Best

Use the VIM-PWBVOICE for low-profile audio capture in offices, vehicles, or meeting rooms where a power bank won't attract attention. Its replaceable AA battery, voice-activation, and on-device playback suit long assignments, periodic spot checks, and situations that require simple, cable-free review.

How it Works

Fit an AA cell: It runs on a standard replaceable AA battery, so a spare in a pocket is the whole contingency plan. Up to 300 hours in record mode.
Record: Press to record, or arm voice activation so it captures only when there is sound. The microphone works to about 10 metres and noise reduction runs across a 100 to 10,000 Hz band.
Play back or transfer: Listen through the supplied earphones, or connect over USB at up to 7 Mb/s to copy the WAV files onto a computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it record continuously as well as with voice activation?

Yes. You can leave it recording continuously or enable the voice activation function to capture audio only when sound is detected.

How far can voices be picked up clearly?

The built-in microphone is specified for up to 10 meters in typical indoor conditions.

How are files played back?

Listen directly with the included earphones, or connect to a computer via USB 2.0 to copy and review WAV files.

What power source does it use?

The recorder runs on a standard AA battery that can be replaced; voice activation helps extend usable runtime.

How much audio can it store?

It has 8GB internal flash memory for storing recordings; voice-activation reduces wasted space by skipping silence.

Is it legal to record audio in New Zealand?

Recording a conversation you are taking part in is generally lawful in New Zealand. That covers the ordinary reasons for buying a recorder: your own meetings, your own interviews, a call you are on, dictation, and keeping a record of something that was said to you. Telling the other people is good practice, and it is what makes a recording useful later rather than contentious.

The limit is conversations you are not part of. Recording or listening to a private communication you are not a party to is interception under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961, and it is an offence. If you record for a business or at work, the Privacy Act 2020 applies as well. Do not use this to record other people's private conversations. This is general information, not legal advice.
