Your power goes out in a storm and your broadband goes with it. A WiFi-only alarm is now a plastic box on the wall.

The VIM-ALARM4G-C hub runs on both a mobile SIM and your home WiFi, so when the router drops the 4G path keeps sending. The kit covers a typical three bedroom house out of the box: two door and window contacts, two PIR motion sensors that ignore pets under 25 kg, a 1080p outdoor camera with infrared night vision, and two keyring remotes. It mounts with screws and pairs from your phone, and the hub holds up to 96 devices as you add rooms.

The Family Home While You Are Away

You are on holiday and the house is empty for two weeks. Any movement inside means something is wrong.

Arm the full system from the app before you leave. The two PIR sensors cover the hallway and living room, the door and window contacts guard the entry points, and the camera watches the driveway. If a contact breaks or a sensor triggers, the 80dB siren sounds and your phone gets the alert with camera footage attached, even if the power to the house has been cut.

A Rental Property Between Tenants

An empty rental is a target, and it is rarely somewhere you can drive to at short notice.

The hub runs on a Spark, One NZ or 2degrees SIM, so it does not need the property's broadband connected. Fit contacts to the front and back doors, put a PIR in the main hallway, and point the camera at the entry. You get told the moment anything opens.

A Small Workshop or Garage

Tools and equipment sit unattended overnight in a building that often has no internet at all.

Run the system entirely on 4G. The camera records to its own microSD card so footage survives even when the connection does not, and the hub relays images to the cloud when an alarm fires. Two remotes let staff arm and disarm without opening the app.

How it Works

Plug the hub in, insert a Spark, One NZ or 2degrees SIM, and connect it to your router with the supplied ethernet cable if you want the WiFi path as well.
Pair each sensor and the camera to the hub from your phone, then assign them to zones so you can arm the perimeter at night and the whole house when you leave.
When a sensor trips, the hub sounds its 80dB siren and pushes an alert to every phone on the account over WiFi, falling back to 4G if the broadband is down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a SIM card for this to work?

No. The hub works over your home WiFi or a wired ethernet connection on its own. The SIM is what keeps it reporting when the power or the broadband goes down, which is the main reason to buy this version rather than a WiFi-only kit.

Will my dog set the alarm off?

The PIR sensors ignore animals up to 25 kg. A large dog above that weight can still trigger them, so mount the sensor higher and angle it across the room rather than down at floor level.

How many extra sensors can I add?

The hub supports up to 96 wireless devices. Extra door and window contacts, PIR sensors, smoke detectors and cameras all pair the same way from the app.

Does the camera keep recording if the internet drops?

Yes. It records to its own microSD card locally, and the hub relays alarm images over the 4G SIM when the fixed connection is unavailable.

Can I install this myself or do I need an electrician?

Yourself. Everything is wireless apart from the hub's power adapter and the optional ethernet cable. Sensors mount with screws or the supplied tape and pair from the app.

Is it legal to run cameras and sensors at my own property in New Zealand?

Yes. You can monitor your own home and your own boundary, and you can record footage for your own security. Keep the camera pointed at your property rather than a neighbour's windows or the interior of their home, and tell anyone living or working there that the system is running. A business recording people must also follow the Privacy Act 2020.
