Remote sites need cameras where there is no mains power and no internet. This four-camera kit puts a 120° wide-angle lens and an 8mm PTZ lens on every camera, giving you the scene and the detail at the same time. One 4G SIM in the solar-powered hub runs the whole system off-grid – no mains, no router, no separate NVR.

How it Works

Mount – Fix the solar hub to a wall or eave with clear sky for the 10W panel. Mount cameras within 30–50 metres of the hub, each with its own 5W solar panel angled toward the sun.
Connect – Insert a 4G Micro SIM into the hub and follow the in-app setup prompt to activate the data connection. Cameras connect to the hub's private WiFi network automatically via QR code pairing – no router or home internet needed.
Monitor – Open the UBOX app on iOS or Android. Quad live view shows all four cameras. Tap any feed for full screen, PTZ control, two-way audio, and playback. Push alerts arrive within seconds of human detection.

1. Do I need a SIM card to use this system?

Yes. The hub uses a single 4G Micro SIM to provide internet to all four cameras. The hub does not connect to a home WiFi router – it creates its own private WiFi network for the cameras and uses 4G for internet to your phone. Choose any New Zealandn carrier (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, or an MVNO) with enough data for your viewing habits (typically $10–15/month for occasional motion alerts and short live-view sessions).

2. How far can the cameras be from the hub?

Up to 50 metres in open areas. Walls, metal structures, and dense vegetation reduce range. Position the hub centrally for best coverage. All four cameras must be within range of the hub's WiFi signal.

3. Does each camera need its own SD card?

Yes. The hub is a router, not a recorder – it provides the network connection but does not store footage. Each camera records independently to its own micro SD card (up to 128GB, sold separately). If you want all four cameras recording, you need four SD cards.

4. What happens during extended cloudy weather?

The hub's 20,100mAh battery runs for more than 120 hours (five days) without any solar input. Each camera has a 7,800mAh battery with its own 5W solar panel. In prolonged overcast conditions, the hub accepts Type-C 5V/2A backup charging. The system adjusts recording frequency automatically to conserve power when battery levels drop.

5. Can the hub connect to my home WiFi router instead of using 4G?

No. The hub is a 4G-only device – it uses one Micro SIM for internet and creates its own private WiFi network for the cameras. If you have home WiFi at the site and want to avoid 4G data costs, see our WiFi-uplink model (VIM-SOL4WIFI3, 500m hub, no SIM required) – it uses your existing router instead. For genuinely off-grid sites where no internet exists, this 4G system is the right fit.

6. Is the night vision visible?

Two modes. Infrared (IR) night vision uses 850nm LEDs that produce a faint red glow visible at close range in complete darkness – reaches 20 metres. Colour night vision uses white LEDs that are clearly visible and illuminate the area – reaches 10 metres. Pick the mode in the app to suit the use case – IR for covert monitoring, white LEDs for active deterrence.
