The VIM-CLOCKCAM4K4 is a working digital alarm clock with a camera in it, and the reason to choose this one over the other clocks in the range is the WiFi: it takes 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz, so it holds its link on a busy home network.

It streams a 4K live view to the app and records 1080p to a microSD card up to 128GB, either continuously or on motion. A 166 degree lens covers most of a room from one corner, infrared switches in automatically when the light drops, and a 1200mAh cell keeps it recording through a short power cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it actually record in 4K?

No. 4K is the live view in the app; recordings on the card are 1080p. We have written the specification the way the supplier states it rather than repeating the headline figure.

Why choose the dual band model?

Because 5GHz stays usable on a network with a lot of devices on it. A 2.4GHz only camera on a busy home network is the usual reason a live view stutters or drops.

Will it keep recording if the power goes out?

For a short outage, yes, on the 1200mAh cell. It is a backup rather than a runtime, so keep it plugged in for continuous coverage.

Does the alarm clock work?

Yes. It keeps time and it sets alarms. That is what makes it reasonable to have one on a bedside table in the first place.

Can I use this to check on my children at home?

Yes. Your own home and your own children is the ordinary use for a camera like this, and nothing stops a parent watching their own house. Where the law does apply is to the adults in it: if a nanny, a cleaner or a carer works in your home, tell them the camera is there and where it points.
