Terms and Conditions

The terms you buy under. They are written to be read rather than to be skipped, and where New Zealand consumer law gives you a better right than anything here, that law wins.

Who you are buying from

securitylab.co.nz is operated by Vimel Technology Pty Ltd, a company based in Sydney, Australia, supplying customers in New Zealand. Placing an order means you accept these terms.

Prices and GST

Every price on this site is in New Zealand dollars and includes GST. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay. There are no currency conversion surprises, because we price in your currency rather than converting from ours.

Prices can change without notice, but the price shown when you complete your order is the price that applies to that order.

Payment

Payment is taken in full at checkout. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express, and PayPal. Card details are handled entirely by the payment provider and are never stored by us.

We do not accept cheques or money orders. Cheques were phased out by New Zealand banks and are no longer a usable payment method.

Stock and availability

Stock figures shown online are our total holding across both warehouses, and they are not a guarantee that a particular item is sitting in a particular building at a particular moment. If something you ordered turns out to be unavailable we will contact you promptly with the option of waiting, substituting or a full refund. We will not simply sit on your money.

Dispatch and delivery

We dispatch every business day. Orders placed on a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday are dispatched on the next business day.

Stock held in New Zealand typically arrives in about 2 business days. Items travelling from our Sydney warehouse go by express post and typically take 4 to 7 business days. Large and bulky items ship by courier and are quoted separately. The delivery page has the detail.

Every order is tracked, and tracking details are sent with your dispatch confirmation.

Risk and title

Risk in the goods stays with us until the parcel is delivered to you. If a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, that is our problem to solve, not yours. Tell us and we will deal with the carrier.

Ownership of the goods passes to you once payment has been received in full.

Warranty, returns and cancellations

Every product carries a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase. You have 30 days from delivery to return a product, and we pay the return postage. Orders can be cancelled before dispatch, which in practice means within about 24 hours on a business day.

The full detail is on the returns and refunds page.

Your rights under New Zealand law

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. Where those Acts give you a remedy, you have it regardless of anything written here.

Goods must be of acceptable quality, fit for their purpose, and match how we described them. If they are not, you have a remedy under the Act and the time limits in our returns policy do not cut it short.

Using the equipment lawfully

We sell equipment that is legal to own and legal to use in most situations, and unlawful in some. The difference is usually where you point it, not what it is.

The key New Zealand rules:

  • New Zealand is a one party consent country under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961. You may record a conversation you are taking part in. Recording a private conversation you are not part of is an offence.
  • Making an intimate visual recording without consent is an offence under sections 216G to 216N of the Crimes Act 1961. That covers any place where a person expects privacy.
  • Since 26 May 2026, tracking another person is a specified act under the stalking offence introduced by the Crimes Legislation (Stalking and Harassment) Amendment. Trackers are for vehicles and assets you own.
  • If you record people in a workplace or a business, the Privacy Act 2020 applies and people generally need to know it is happening.

Our FAQs cover this in more depth, and each buying guide sets out the law for its own category. You are responsible for using what you buy lawfully. This is general information and not legal advice, so if a recording may end up in a dispute or a court, get advice on your situation.

Errors

We check our product data carefully and we correct mistakes when we find them. If a price or a specification is obviously wrong, we will contact you before dispatch rather than quietly shipping something that is not what you thought you bought. You can cancel for a full refund in that situation.

Our content

The buying guides, comparison tables, photography and product write-ups on this site are our own work. You are welcome to link to them. Republishing them elsewhere without permission is not on.

Governing law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Questions about any of this, ask us. We would rather answer before you order than argue after.
