The shed is round the back and you cannot see the driveway from the kitchen. Something happens at two in the morning and by the time you notice, there is nothing left to show anyone.

This kit puts four cameras outside and the recorder inside your house. Each camera runs on one Ethernet cable that carries the power and the picture together, so you are pulling a single cheap cable to each position rather than mains and video separately. Sony Starvis 5MP sensors see 25 metres into the dark, the IP66 housings are made for rain, and H.265+ compression fits weeks of footage onto a hard drive of up to 8TB. Fit the drive and it all stays on the property, with nothing to pay each month.

The house that sits empty all day

Everyone leaves by eight and nobody is back until six. Cameras on the front door, the driveway and the back of the house record the whole day to the drive in the hallway cupboard, and a motion alert tells you when someone walks up the path. You open the app, look at the live view, and decide whether it matters.

Sheds, workshops and the far side of the section

A workshop or an implement shed usually has power but nothing running back to the house. One Ethernet cable does both jobs here, and the 30 metre runs in the box reach a detached shed on most sections. The recorder keeps writing whether or not the internet is up, so a dropout does not cost you the footage.

A small yard or site after hours

Once the gate is shut there is nobody to see anything. Continuous recording across four cameras onto an 8TB drive holds a long run of overnight footage, and you can scroll back to the exact minute from your phone the next morning rather than driving out to the recorder.

How it Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. The cameras connect to the recorder, not to the internet, and recording carries on to the hard drive whether or not your connection is up. You need internet at the recorder only for remote viewing on your phone and for push alerts.

Is a hard drive included?

No. The recorder takes a SATA hard drive of up to 8TB, bought separately. We can fit one before dispatch at extra cost: contact us before you order for a quote. Without a drive you can still watch live, but nothing is saved.

How far can I run the cables?

The kit includes two 30 metre and two 20 metre cables. Ethernet will run to about 100 metres per camera before you lose signal, so a longer cable can be bought if a position needs it.

Can I add more than four cameras?

The recorder has four channels, so four is the limit on this unit. The cameras are ONVIF compatible, which means they will work with a larger ONVIF recorder if you move to a bigger system later.

Does it record audio?

The specification for this kit lists video only, with no microphone on the cameras. If you want to hear and speak through a camera, look at the wireless kits that list two way audio.

What am I allowed to record?

Cameras covering your own property, your entrances and your driveway are ordinary and lawful in New Zealand, and that is what almost everyone buys a kit like this for. Two limits are worth knowing. Point the cameras at your own land rather than through a neighbour's windows or across a shared space, and do not put one anywhere a person reasonably expects privacy, such as a bathroom, a bedroom or a changing area. Keep footage only as long as you actually need it, and hand it to the Police rather than putting it online. A business recording people must also follow the Privacy Act 2020.
