Most home alarms stop working the moment the router does. Cut the power and a WiFi-only system goes quiet.

The VIM-ALARM4G hub runs on a mobile SIM as well as your home network, so the alert still leaves the house when the broadband does not. The kit covers a standard home out of the box: two door and window contacts, two PIR motion sensors that ignore pets under 25 kg, and two keyring remotes with an SOS button. It mounts without wiring, pairs from your phone, and takes up to 96 devices as you add rooms.

How it Works

Power the hub, fit a Spark, One NZ or 2degrees SIM, and connect it to your router with the supplied ethernet cable if you want a fixed line as well.
Mount the contacts on the doors and windows and the PIR sensors in the rooms you want covered, then pair each one from your phone and assign it to a zone.
When a zone is armed and a sensor trips, the hub sounds its 80dB siren and alerts every paired phone, falling back to the 4G SIM if the broadband is down.

No. The hub works on WiFi or a wired connection by itself. The SIM is what keeps it reporting through a power cut or a broadband outage, which is the reason to choose this kit over a WiFi-only one.
