Description

A 4G listening module for premises you are responsible for, at 38 x 12 x 30mm. You call its number from your phone and hear the room. It is controlled entirely by SMS and protected by a password, so only the numbers you authorise can connect.

Note what it is: this is a live listening module, not a recorder. Audio is heard on the call, not stored, unless you add the optional Bluetooth recorder accessory. Voice detection reaches about 20m, and the 1,200mAh cell gives up to 25 hours depending on how often it is called.

Features

Call in and hear the room: Ring the module's number from an authorised phone and listen live. No app, no WiFi and nothing to install at the site.
Password protected: Only the numbers you authorise can connect, and access is protected by a password you set by SMS.
Controlled entirely by text message: Settings, sensitivity and alerts are all SMS commands, which means it works from any phone anywhere.
Voice detection to about 20 metres: The sensor triggers on sound rather than running continuously, which is what makes a 1200mAh cell last up to 25 hours.
Very small: 38 x 12 x 30mm, so it fits in installations where a larger unit will not.
Listening, not recording: Audio comes down the call. If you need it kept, add the optional Bluetooth recorder accessory; the module on its own does not store anything.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Building With No Power or Network

A shed, a container or an unoccupied unit has neither WiFi nor anything to plug into.

A 4G SIM and a charge are the whole installation. Ring it when you want to know whether anything is happening there.

Machinery and Plant You Own

You want to know whether a machine is running, or whether it is running when it should not be.

Voice detection to about 20 metres picks up plant noise, and the module can call or text you rather than waiting to be called.

Short Term Installations

A build, a lease handover or a temporary site does not justify a permanent system.

Up to 25 hours per charge, mounted with the supplied sticker, and taken away again when the job is done.

How it Works

Fit a SIM and place it: Insert a 4G SIM with voice and SMS enabled, charge over USB-C and mount the module with the supplied sticker.
Set it up by SMS: Send SMS commands to set the password, the authorised numbers and the sound sensitivity. Nothing needs an app or a computer.
Call in to listen: Ring the module's number from an authorised phone to hear the room live. With voice detection armed it can call or text you when it hears sound instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I listen live?

Insert a 4G SIM, power the unit, then call the device's number from your phone to hear the environment in real time.

Can I record audio with this unit alone?

Live listening is built in. For recording, pair it with the optional Bluetooth Recorder Accessory mentioned above.

What triggers the device when voice detection is on?

The sensor activates when sound is detected within approximately 20 m, helping conserve battery and avoid silence.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life is up to 25 hours depending on call frequency and signal conditions. Recharge via the supplied USB Type-C cable.

Can I manage settings remotely?

Yes. Use SMS commands to configure alerts, sensitivity, and other functions, and to receive notifications or calls from the device.

Is it legal to record audio in New Zealand?

Recording a conversation you are taking part in is generally lawful in New Zealand. That covers the ordinary reasons for buying a recorder: your own meetings, your own interviews, a call you are on, dictation, and keeping a record of something that was said to you. Telling the other people is good practice, and it is what makes a recording useful later rather than contentious.

Listening to or recording activity on premises you own or manage is also generally lawful, provided you are not capturing private conversations you are not part of. Where staff or visitors are involved, tell them in writing and say what the recording is for.

The limit is conversations you are not part of. Recording or listening to a private communication you are not a party to is interception under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961, and it is an offence. If you record for a business or at work, the Privacy Act 2020 applies as well. Do not use this to record other people's private conversations. This is general information, not legal advice.
