It is a live listening device rather than a recorder: audio comes down the call and is not stored unless you add the optional Bluetooth recorder accessory. Is it legal to record audio in New Zealand?

Recording a conversation you are taking part in is generally lawful in New Zealand. Listening to or recording activity on premises you own or manage is also generally lawful, provided you are not capturing private conversations you are not part of. Where staff or visitors are involved, tell them in writing and say what the recording is for.

The limit is conversations you are not part of. Recording or listening to a private communication you are not a party to is interception under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961, and it is an offence.
