Description

The VIM-GLASSWIFI2 is the pair with live view. It makes its own WiFi hotspot, so your phone joins the glasses directly and the app shows you what the camera sees, up to about five metres away. There is no internet connection involved.

It records 1920 x 1080p at 30fps in MOV using H.264, takes JPEG stills while still recording, and stores everything on 32GB of built-in memory. The lenses are certified polarised TAC with UV400, so they work as sunglasses in bright light. The battery gives 50 to 60 minutes and charges over USB-C.

Features

Its own WiFi hotspot: Your phone connects to the glasses directly, up to about five metres, with no router and no internet.
Full app control: Start and stop recording, change resolution, switch audio on or off, toggle the time stamp and format the memory.
Stills while recording: A quick press takes a JPEG photograph without interrupting the video.
Certified polarised UV400 lenses: Real TAC sunglasses lenses, which matters if you are going to wear them outside.
32GB built in: No card to fit and none to lose.
USB-C: Charging and transfer over a connector you probably already carry.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Framing the Shot Before It Matters

The live view on your phone lets you confirm the angle before you start, which is the single most useful thing about this pair.

Recording Your Own Work

An inspection, an interview or a handover, with a colleague able to see the same feed on their own phone.

Documenting a Property You Own

Walk a site you own or manage and check the framing on your phone as you go, rather than finding out afterwards.

Outdoors in Bright Light

The polarised UV400 lenses are certified, so these work as sunglasses rather than as a camera that happens to be glasses shaped.

How it Works

Charge it: charge over USB-C. There is no card to fit, because the 32GB is built in.
Pair it: turn on the hotspot and join it from your phone, then open the app for live view.
Record and review: record from the app or from the button, and download the MOV files over USB-C or through the app.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the WiFi work?

The glasses create their own local hotspot and your phone joins that network directly, up to about five metres. It does not go through a router and it does not connect to the internet, so nothing leaves the device.

Can I take photos while recording video?

Yes. A quick press of the main button captures a JPEG still without interrupting the video.

What can I control from the app?

Recording, stills, audio on or off, the time stamp, the video resolution and formatting the memory.

Can I add a memory card?

No. The 32GB is built in and there is no card slot. At 1080p that is far more than the 50 to 60 minute battery will fill in one session.

Can I record with this legally in New Zealand?

Worn and used while you are present, yes. You are a party to what happens in front of you, and recording a conversation you are part of is lawful here, as is filming in a place you own or control. What you cannot do is leave them recording a conversation you are not part of, take them into a bathroom, changing area or anywhere else with a reasonable expectation of privacy, or record intimate footage, which is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961.
