Description

500 hours of continuous recording is the reason to buy this one. That is three weeks without stopping, from a recorder that magnets to a steel surface and is rated IPX6 against heavy water spray.

Standby runs to about 200 days, it records while charging, and 8GB of internal memory holds WAV files. At 65 x 25 x 12mm and 65g it is heavier than the pocket recorders because the cell is the point.

Features

Ultra-long operation: Up to 500 hours of continuous recording with around 200 days of standby for extended deployments.
Smart capture: Voice activation starts/stops automatically; loop recording overwrites the oldest files to maintain continuous coverage.
Magnetic mounting: Built-in magnet enables quick, discreet placement on metal surfaces for optimal microphone positioning.
Continuous power: Records while charging so multi-day sessions are possible without interruption.
Simple handling: One-key operation and date/time stamps streamline use and later review.
Hours of storage: Holds up to 600 hours of audio.

Applications

Where This Works Best

Ideal for long-term room monitoring, staged interviews, or unattended evidence capture where endurance and discretion are critical. Mount under a metal desk, place inside a cabinet, or leave on a shelf to log activity over days without frequent servicing.

How it Works

Mount it: The magnet holds it to any steel surface, and the IPX6 rating means heavy spray will not stop it, so a yard, a plant room or a vehicle bay is fair game.
Record for weeks: Up to 500 hours of continuous recording per charge, or about 200 days waiting on standby. It records while charging, so on a power source there is no limit.
Collect the audio: Plug in the supplied earphones through the jack converter for playback, or connect over micro USB to copy the WAV files onto a computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can it record continuously and how long is standby?

It can record for up to 500 hours continuously and remain in standby for up to 200 days, depending on settings and environment.

Does it only record when there is sound?

Yes, voice activation can be enabled so the recorder starts when sound is detected and pauses during silence to save power and storage.

What happens when the memory fills up?

Loop recording automatically overwrites the oldest files, maintaining uninterrupted recording without manual file management.

Can it operate while charging?

Yes, it supports recording while charging for extended, uninterrupted sessions.

Is it water resistant?

It is rated IPX6, suitable for rain or splashes. It should not be submerged.

Is it legal to record audio in New Zealand?

Recording a conversation you are taking part in is generally lawful in New Zealand. That covers the ordinary reasons for buying a recorder: your own meetings, your own interviews, a call you are on, dictation, and keeping a record of something that was said to you. Telling the other people is good practice, and it is what makes a recording useful later rather than contentious.

The limit is conversations you are not part of. Recording or listening to a private communication you are not a party to is interception under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961, and it is an offence. If you record for a business or at work, the Privacy Act 2020 applies as well. Do not use this to record other people's private conversations. This is general information, not legal advice.
