Description

A mini 4G security camera for the places a WiFi camera cannot reach: a shed, a garage, a holiday house, a caravan, a shop after hours, a window that looks over the drive. The VIM-4GMINICAM5 runs on a 4G SIM with no WiFi and no cabling, and it detects people by radar rather than PIR, so sun and heat do not set it off, and it sees through glass where a PIR camera is blind. Sit it inside a window looking out and it detects a person about 3 metres beyond the glass, 6 metres in the open, and starts recording in a quarter of a second.

It records 2304 x 1296 through a 3.2mm F2.5 lens with a 125 degree view, and four 940nm infrared lights reach about 8 metres with no red glow. Two-way audio works through the app. The 2400mAh high-temperature cell is tested to keep running after four hours at 80 degrees, so a windowsill in full sun, a roof space or a parked car does not shut it down; it gives about two weeks in low-power mode, nine hours continuous, or runs constantly on USB-C or a small solar panel. Footage goes to a microSD card up to 128GB with no monthly fee, the magnetic base grips any steel surface, and the whole camera is 39 by 39 by 59mm at 98g. It is not weather sealed, so it lives indoors or behind glass; for outside in the open, the IP66 VIM-4GMINICAM3 is the one.

Features

  • Detects Through Glass: radar sees through a window or a windscreen and picks up a person where a PIR camera cannot: about 3 metres through glass and 6 metres in the open, with a 0.25 second trigger.
  • No Heat False Alarms: radar reads movement rather than body heat, so a sunlit room, a hot shed or a warm engine does not set it off the way it does a PIR camera.
  • 2K Detail: records at 2304 x 1296, sharp enough to make out a face or a number plate close to the camera.
  • Takes the Heat: the high-temperature battery is lab-tested to keep running after four hours at 80 degrees, so a windowsill in full sun, a roof space or a parked car in summer does not shut it down.
  • Invisible After Dark: four 940nm infrared lights reach about 8 metres in total darkness, with no red glow to give the camera's position away.
  • Runs With No WiFi: a 4G Nano-SIM connects it over the mobile network, so it works in a shed, a yard, a holiday house or a car park with no WiFi and no power run to it.
  • No Monthly Fees: footage records to a microSD card up to 128GB that you own, with cloud storage as an option rather than a locked-in subscription.
  • Hear the Scene: two-way audio lets you listen in and speak through the app from wherever you are.
  • Mounts in Seconds: the magnetic base grips any steel surface, and the bracket takes a screw or an adhesive pad when you want it fixed.
  • Indoors or Behind Glass: it is not waterproof, so it sits inside a building, a cabin or a window, not out in the open weather. For outdoors, see the IP66 VIM-4GMINICAM3.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

  1. A shed, garage or workshop with no WiFi. Tools and gear sit in a building the home network does not reach. The camera runs on its own SIM, sits on a shelf or a steel beam on the magnetic base, and the radar wakes it the moment someone steps inside, day or night, with the clip on your phone seconds later.
  2. A holiday house, watching the drive through the window. A PIR camera inside a window never fires, because glass blocks body heat. This one sees through the glass, so it sits on the sill, out of the weather, watching the approach to a bach or a country house that is empty for weeks, and runs on USB-C or a small solar panel for as long as you are away.
  3. A work ute parked on the street overnight. Tools in the tray and cab are a target, and a camera stuck to the windscreen normally sees nothing until the glass is broken. On the dash, the radar picks up someone stepping up to the vehicle, records them in 2K, and the heat-rated battery means it is still running after a week on a summer dashboard.

How it Works

  1. Fit: stick the magnetic base to a shelf bracket, a steel beam or the dash, or screw the mount where you need it, and point it at the doorway or out through the glass.
  2. Connect: insert a 4G Nano-SIM and a microSD card, then pair the camera to the free app over Bluetooth. No WiFi and no cabling.
  3. Monitor: watch the live 2K view, get radar motion alerts, and play back recordings from your phone on iOS or Android.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do security cameras work through glass?

Most do not, because their PIR motion sensors are blocked by glass. This one uses radar instead, which sees through a window or windscreen and picks up movement up to about 3 metres on the other side, then triggers recording in a quarter of a second.

2. Can you use a security camera without WiFi?

Yes. This camera runs on the 4G mobile network through a Nano-SIM, so it needs no WiFi and no fixed internet. It works in a shed, a holiday house, a yard or a car, anywhere with mobile signal, and you watch the live feed from the app on your phone.

3. Is the SIM card included?

No, you supply your own. Any standard Nano-SIM with a small data plan from a New Zealand carrier such as Spark, One NZ or 2degrees will work. A microSD card for recording is also not included; the camera takes cards up to 128GB.

4. Does heat affect it?

No. The battery is a high-temperature type, lab-tested to keep working after four hours at 80 degrees, hotter than a windowsill in full sun, a roof space or a parked car reaches in summer. Ordinary camera batteries can swell or cut out in that heat, so this one is built to take it.

5. How long does the battery last between charges?

On its own battery it runs about two weeks in low-power motion mode, or roughly nine hours recording non-stop, so for constant monitoring you power it over USB-C or a small solar panel. Its standalone runtime is short next to large outdoor cameras.

6. Is it weatherproof?

No. It is built for indoor use, inside a building, a cabin or a window. For a camera out in the open weather, the IP66 VIM-4GMINICAM3 is the one to choose.
