The tracker uses 4G LTE through your own Micro SIM with a data plan from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees. Location and audio data transmit to secure servers. You access everything through the free smartphone app, iOS or Android.

How long does it run on a charge?

The 10000mAh battery gives up to 90 days of standby, or about 14 days of continuous tracking. The reporting interval is what moves it between those two numbers.

How far does the microphone reach?

About 5 metres, so it picks up the cabin it is placed in rather than the road outside. Placement matters more than volume.

How accurate is the location?

About 5 metres in the open, using GPS with GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. Accuracy falls indoors and in a multi-storey car park, which is true of any consumer GPS unit.

Will it survive under a vehicle?

Yes. It is IP67 rated for dust and immersion, operates from -20 to 60 degrees Celsius, and the built-in magnet holds it on a steel surface with no bracket.

Can I manage more than one vehicle?

Yes. Several trackers sit under one account in the app, and each needs its own SIM.

Is it legal to use the live listening feature?

Audio is treated differently from location in New Zealand law, and more strictly. Listening to a conversation you are part of, or recording in your own vehicle where the people in it have been told, is generally lawful. Intercepting a private conversation you are not part of, using a device like this one, is an offence under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961 and carries real penalties. If you record for a business or at work, the Privacy Act 2020 applies as well. Use the tracking freely on your own assets and take advice before you use the microphone on anyone else.
