Every other body camera in this range records for someone to watch later. The VIM-POLICECAM4G2 carries a 4G modem, so a control room can watch a 720p feed while it is happening, from anywhere with mobile coverage, and talk back through the camera's own speaker.

A 32 megapixel Sony CMOS behind an Ambarella A12 processor records 2K at 2304 x 1296 and 1080p locally in H.265, with two 850nm infrared LEDs for about 10 metres of night vision and motion detection to start recording on its own. The 4400mAh battery runs above 15 hours at 1080p, 128GB of storage is built in, and the IP66 housing handles dust and rain. A docking station is in the box.

Real-World Scenarios

Supervised patrols

The reason to take the 4G model over the WiFi ones is that a control room can see what is happening while it happens, from anywhere with mobile coverage, and talk back through the camera's speaker. For a lone officer on a remote site that is a materially different level of support.

Long shifts across multiple sites

Above 15 hours of recording at 1080p covers a full shift with the live feed used sparingly, and the docking station turns the changeover into setting the camera down. H.265 encoding keeps a shift of footage inside the storage.

Night and outdoor work

Two 850nm IR LEDs give about 10 metres of night vision, and IP66 covers the dust and rain of outdoor patrol work. Motion triggered recording catches activity when the camera is set down rather than worn.

How it Works

Fit a SIM and set it up: Insert a 4G SIM from any New Zealand carrier for live streaming, or run it on WiFi alone. Set your User ID so it stamps onto the footage.
Record and stream: One press records locally in 2K or 1080p. When a supervisor needs to see it, the same camera streams a 720p feed over 4G or WiFi with two way audio.
Dock at shift end: Set the camera on its docking station to charge, and pull the footage off over USB when it is needed.
