Description

Two things separate the VIM-POLICECAM4G3 from the rest of the range. It has a second camera facing behind you, and it does not stop recording when you change the battery.

The front lens records 2K and the rear 1080p, switchable, with a 30 second pre-record buffer running ahead of the button. Push to talk over 4G puts a control room one press away, and the SOS button sends GPS coordinates from a receiver reading GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. A 60mAh internal cell keeps the recording alive while you hot swap the 3050mAh battery, and there are two of those in the box with a docking station. Android 12 on a 2.8 inch touchscreen, IP67 and submersible to a metre, with a 128GB microSD card fitted and support for cards up to 256GB.

Features

  • Two lenses, front and rear: A 2K front camera and a 1080p rear camera, switchable so you record or stream one at a time. What is behind you is often the part nobody has on film.
  • Push to talk over 4G: A PTT intercom connects the officer to a control room over cellular, so the camera doubles as the radio rather than being one more thing on the vest.
  • SOS with GPS coordinates: One button sends an emergency alert with the wearer's position, from a multi constellation receiver reading GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.
  • Three ways to see in the dark: A white LED for illumination people can see, four IR LEDs for footage they cannot, and a laser for aiming. Different situations call for different answers.
  • Recording survives a battery change: A 60mAh internal backup keeps the camera running while you swap the 3050mAh removable battery, so a hot swap does not create a gap in the record.
  • 30 second pre-record buffer: The half minute before you pressed the button is written into the start of the file.
  • Android 12 with a touchscreen: An eight core processor with 2GB of RAM behind a 2.8 inch IPS touchscreen, on WiFi 2.4G and 5G plus Bluetooth 5.0.
  • IP67, submersible to a metre: Dust tight and rated for immersion, which is a step beyond the rain resistance most body cameras offer.
  • 128GB card fitted before despatch: The camera arrives ready to record on a 128GB microSD card, and the slot takes cards up to 256GB.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Lone officers on remote sites

Push to talk over 4G keeps a control room one button away, and the SOS sends coordinates rather than a description of where you think you are. For someone working alone at distance, that combination is the point of the camera as much as the footage is.

Patrols where the record has to be continuous

A gap in the footage at a battery change is exactly the gap that gets asked about. The internal backup cell holds the recording through a hot swap, and up to 11 hours from a battery means the swap comes once rather than repeatedly.

Supervised law enforcement operations

GPS tracking, live streaming and two way voice give a coordinator position and picture for every officer on the ground. Dual lenses cover the approach and what is behind, and IP67 means the equipment holds up in weather that ends a patrol.

How it Works

  1. Fit a SIM: Insert a 4G SIM from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees for streaming, PTT and SOS. The 128GB microSD card is already fitted and ready to record; only the SIM is not included.
  2. Record, switch lenses, or stream: Record 2K from the front camera or 1080p from the rear, with a 30 second pre-record buffer running ahead of the button. Push to talk connects to the control room over 4G.
  3. Swap batteries without stopping: The internal backup cell keeps the recording alive while you change the removable 3050mAh battery, then dock both at the end of the shift.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

What SIM card does it need?

A standard 4G SIM. It works with any New Zealand carrier, so Spark, One NZ, 2degrees and the MVNOs that run on them. There is no proprietary SIM and no locked plan: any prepaid or postpaid plan with data will do.

Can I switch between the front and rear lens while recording?

Yes. Tap the touchscreen to change which lens is active and the switch happens without interrupting the recording. During a live stream, the viewer sees whichever lens is selected at the time.

How does the hot swap battery work?

A 60mAh internal cell keeps the camera powered while you change the main battery. Press the release, swap it, and the recording continues without a gap. That gap is exactly what gets questioned later, which is why the backup cell is there.

Can I monitor several cameras from one screen?

Yes. The fleet management platform shows live video and GPS position for multiple cameras together, with each camera connecting over its own 4G SIM.

Is the pre-record buffer always running?

Yes. The camera continuously buffers the last 30 seconds, and pressing record saves those 30 seconds along with everything that follows. There is nothing to enable first.

Are there ongoing subscription fees?

No. The camera itself carries no licensing or subscription fee. The only ongoing cost is the 4G SIM plan, and you choose that from any carrier.

Does it come with a memory card?

Yes. A 128GB microSD card is fitted before the camera ships, so it records from the first shift with nothing to add. The slot takes cards up to 256GB if you want more room for a long deployment.

What do I need to know about using one on duty in New Zealand?

Body worn cameras are used here by agencies such as Corrections and court and fisheries officers, and by security staff, and recording in a public place is lawful. Two things sit alongside that. Audio is treated more strictly than video: the Crimes Act 1961 limits recording conversations and the Privacy Commissioner regards audio as far more intrusive, so when and how you record conversations matters. And because this model also tracks GPS position and streams live, an organisation deploying it needs a policy covering notification, retention, access and disclosure, since the Privacy Act applies to location data and footage alike. This is general information, not legal advice.
