Description

A guard who goes quiet on the radio leaves the control room guessing where they are and what went wrong. The VIM-PC-4G streams each guard's live video and GPS position to the control room over 4G from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees, and the key on the side opens push to talk to the whole team. One press of the red SOS key sends an alert with the guard's position to your control room, not 111.

It records 1080p at up to 30fps to a 128GB card fitted before despatch, about 22 hours before loop recording replaces the oldest files, and a day lens and a night lens with four infrared LEDs switch over by themselves after dark. Switch on AES-256 encryption and the playback password before the cameras go out, and a camera lost on a job keeps its videos encrypted and its playback locked. The 3000mAh battery records for up to 8.5 hours and charges over USB-C in about 3 hours, with no dock or spare battery in the box. Android 12 runs on a 2.8 inch touchscreen, and the 120 g body is rated IP68 and for a 2 metre drop.

Features

  • Live 1080p video over 4G: The control room opens any guard's feed on the fleet platform or in the phone app. The stream starts at 240p to save data and can be raised to 360p, 480p, 720p or 1080p.
  • Spark, One NZ and 2degrees: One nano SIM with a data plan carries the live video, GPS, push to talk and SOS. New Zealand no longer has a 3G network, so 4G coverage at each site decides what the camera can stream.
  • GPS position on the control room map: GPS, GLONASS and Galileo report each guard's position every 60 seconds by default. Like any GPS, the position can drift or drop out inside buildings and underground.
  • One-press SOS with the guard's position: The red key sends an alert with the guard's GPS position to your platform, flashes the strobes and sounds an alarm. It needs mobile coverage and goes to your control room, not 111.
  • Push to talk on the side key: Hold the PTT key and speak to the whole team over the mobile network, one voice at a time, as on a two-way radio.
  • AES-256 video encryption: Switch it on in Video Settings and every video recorded from then on is encrypted. It ships switched off, so turn it on before the cameras go out.
  • Password locks: Lock playback, settings, functions, lights and power-on separately, so a guard can record but cannot change anything you have locked.
  • 128GB card fitted before despatch: About 22 hours of 1080p footage, after which loop recording writes over the oldest files. The slot takes cards up to 512GB.
  • 1080p at up to 30fps: 1920 x 1080 in H.264, at 25fps by default or 30fps from the menu, with lower settings down to 240p to stretch the card.
  • Day lens and night lens: One lens records in daylight and the other takes over after dark, switching by itself. Only one records at a time.
  • Infrared night vision to 5 metres: Four infrared LEDs come on in the dark, automatically or by hand. Beyond 5 metres the picture depends on the site's own lighting.
  • Android 12 on a 2.8 inch touchscreen: Set the camera up through Settings like a phone, check signal and GPS before a shift, and play a clip back on site.
  • Pre-record of 5 to 30 seconds: Choose 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds and pressing record also saves what happened just before. Pre-record stays off until you set it.
  • Red and blue strobes, white LED: The strobes make a guard easy to pick out in a crowd, and the white LED lights a doorway or a face at close range.
  • Magnetic clip and belt clip: The two-piece magnetic clip holds the camera on a shirt or a vest, and the belt clip fits a belt or a strap.
  • Up to 8.5 hours per charge: The 3000mAh battery records for up to 8.5 hours, or about 8 hours with live streaming, then recharges over USB-C in about 3 hours. There is no dock or spare battery.
  • IP68 and a 2 metre drop rating: Sealed against rain and dust with the SIM cover closed, and rated for a 2 metre fall, further than the drop from a chest mount.
  • Time, guard ID and GPS stamp: Each video can carry the time, device number, guard ID and, with a GPS fix, the position, so a clip shows who recorded it and where.
  • Sound with video, or sound only: The built-in microphone records with video unless you switch it off, and the microphone key records sound on its own.
  • 120 g and compact: At 78 x 53 x 27mm it sits on a shirt or a vest without getting in the way of the work.

Applications

Crowd control at festivals and events

Across a festival site, the event control room sees every guard on the map and opens a live feed when a crowd builds at a gate. Push to talk sends two more guards to the spot without a phone call, while the guard on the gate records in 1080p for the incident report.

Repossession and debt collection visits

Field agents often knock on doors alone, and a visit can turn hostile quickly. The camera sits in plain view, the agent tells the occupant it is recording, and with coverage one press of SOS sends the agent's position to the office.

Night patrols of open car parks

After dark the camera switches to its night lens and infrared, which reaches 5 metres, so the far rows of a car park still depend on the site's lighting. The strobes make the patrolling guard easy to spot, and the control room follows the patrol on the map.

How it Works

  1. Fit the SIM and add the camera: Insert a nano SIM from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees under the side cover, add the camera to the phone app or the fleet platform, and enter the guard's ID for the video stamp.
  2. Clip on and record: The guard checks 4G signal and GPS on the touchscreen, then presses record. The control room can open the live feed whenever the camera has coverage.
  3. Charge and copy over USB-C: Plug the cable into the wall charger to recharge, or into a computer to copy the shift's footage to your own storage.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect the body camera to a phone?

Install the free app on an iPhone or Android phone and add the camera. With mobile coverage at both ends, the app shows the camera's live video and GPS position from anywhere. Teams with several cameras can run the fleet platform on a computer, with every camera on one screen.

Does it work on Spark, One NZ and 2degrees?

Yes. It takes a nano data SIM from any New Zealand carrier, or a reseller on their networks, and runs on 4G. No SIM is in the box. With no 3G network left in New Zealand there is no slower fallback, so check reception at remote sites before you roll the cameras out.

Will one battery last a 12 hour shift?

No. Expect up to 8.5 hours of recording from the 3000mAh battery, and about 8 hours with live streaming running, so a long shift needs a recharge part-way through. A full charge over USB-C takes about 3 hours, and the box has no spare battery or docking station.

What happens to the footage if a camera is lost?

Footage already copied off stays with you, and anything recorded since sits on the 128GB card inside the camera. Videos recorded with encryption switched on in Video Settings are AES-256 encrypted, and a playback password stops anyone browsing clips on the camera's own screen.

Is there a monthly fee for live view?

No. The phone app has no subscription and nothing on it expires. A team on the fleet platform pays a one-time licence instead, with the software running on a computer that has internet access. The ongoing cost is each camera's SIM data plan, which rises with how much you stream live.

When does it start recording?

When the wearer presses record, or at power-up if record on power-up is switched on. With pre-record set to 30 seconds, the recording also keeps the half minute before the press. Your own policy decides when staff record, and writing that rule down before the cameras go out avoids arguments later.

What do I need to know about using one on duty in New Zealand?

Body worn cameras are used here by agencies such as Corrections and court and fisheries officers, and by security staff, and filming openly in a public place or on premises you guard is lawful. Audio is the part to handle with care: under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961 you may record a conversation you are part of, but not one you are only overhearing, so wear the camera openly, say that it records and, where a control room watches live, that it streams. Because this model also tracks GPS and streams live, the organisation deploying it needs a policy under the Privacy Act 2020 covering notice, retention, access and disclosure, staff who wear it or are filmed by it should be consulted under the good faith duty in the Employment Relations Act 2000, and paid security work needs a certificate of approval under the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010. The strobes draw attention but give no authority, and passing yourself off as Police is an offence under the Policing Act 2008. This is general information, not legal advice.

SIM card. The camera runs on the New Zealand mobile networks like a phone, so any nano SIM with a data plan from Spark, One NZ, 2degrees or a reseller on their networks will work. There is no docking station or spare battery: the camera charges over the USB-C cable.
