Description

The LawMate PV-MU10 is a recorder in a wireless mouse shell, 65 x 130 x 35mm and 90g. It is a camera housing rather than a working mouse, and it has no WiFi and no app, so nothing pairs and nothing streams.

Its argument is standby time. A PIR sensor triggers on motion and body heat, which gives seven to nine days on one charge of the removable 3.7V lithium ion cell. A 5MP 1/3.6 inch progressive CMOS sensor records video at 720p 30fps in H.264 and captures stills at 2592 x 1944, saved as MOV and JPG across a 66 degree view. Loop recording overwrites the oldest files, every frame carries a date and time stamp, an 8GB card is in the box and cards up to 16GB are supported.

Features

Seven to nine days of standby: The longest standby in the desk object range, from a PIR sensor and a removable lithium ion cell.
PIR thermal triggering: Recording starts on motion and body heat rather than on any movement, which is what makes the standby figure possible.
720p video, 5MP stills: Video is recorded at 720p 30fps in H.264. The 5MP figure is the photo resolution, 2592 x 1944, not the video.
No network at all: No WiFi and no app. Nothing pairs, nothing streams and nothing leaves the device, which suits a site with no broadband.
Video and audio: Sound is recorded alongside the video, and can be switched off where it is not wanted.
Loop recording and time stamp: The oldest files are overwritten when the card fills, and every frame carries the date and time.
Card included: An 8GB microSD card is supplied, and cards up to 16GB are supported.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A home office or a study

Seven to nine days of standby covers a week away from your own desk, with nothing to plug in and no network to configure.

A workshop or a store you run

On premises you manage it records without any network connection, which matters where there is no router or where IT policy rules out a WiFi camera. Tell your staff the area is recorded.

A holiday house or a sleepout you own

Set it down, arm the sensor and collect the card next visit. No broadband and no power point are needed.

How it Works

Charge the cell and fit the card: Charge the removable 3.7V lithium ion battery over USB and fit the supplied 8GB card, or one up to 16GB.
Set it down in your own space: Put it on a desk or a shelf inside a property you own or manage, with the 66 degree lens facing the area you want covered.
Leave it on PIR: Arm the sensor and leave it. It waits seven to nine days on standby, wakes on motion and body heat, records to the card, and loops the oldest files when the card fills.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the mouse work as a computer mouse?

No. It is a mouse shaped housing for the camera with no mouse function, so keep your existing one on the desk.

What resolution does it record?

Video is 720p at 30fps. The 5MP figure quoted for this model is the still photo resolution, 2592 x 1944, and is not the video resolution. If you need Full HD video, choose a different model in this range.

How does the PIR sensor work?

It picks up motion and body heat and starts the recording, rather than triggering on any movement in frame. That is what gives seven to nine days of standby from one charge.

What storage and battery should I expect?

Cards up to 16GB, with an 8GB card supplied, and a removable 3.7V lithium ion cell that holds seven to nine days on standby. Loop recording overwrites the oldest files when the card fills.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record a space you own or control for your own security: your own home, a home office, a workshop, a store or a holiday house you own. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people who are recorded to be told, so put up a notice and tell staff and visitors. Never place it in a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom that is not yours, because intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave it off unless you need it. This is general information rather than legal advice.
