Description

The VIM-MOUSECAM is a working computer mouse with a Full HD camera in the same body. It plugs into a computer and works as a mouse, so it earns its place on a desk on its own, and it records while it does.

A 2MP 1/3 inch progressive CMOS sensor records 1920 x 1080p at 30fps in H.264, saved as MOV, with 2560 x 1920 stills as JPG. A built in microphone records audio alongside the video. It joins WiFi for live view and motion alerts in the app on Android or iOS, and the 1000mAh cell gives about two to three hours of recording away from the computer. Cards up to 32GB are supported.

Features

A working mouse: It functions as a wired computer mouse and records at the same time, so it is doing a real job on the desk rather than sitting there as a prop.
Full HD with audio: 1920 x 1080p at 30fps from a 2MP 1/3 inch progressive CMOS sensor, saved as MOV with sound from a built in microphone.
2560 x 1920 stills: Photographs are captured as JPG at a higher resolution than the video frames.
Motion alerts: Movement starts a recording and sends a notification to the app, so the card holds events rather than empty hours.
Remote live view: WiFi and the Android or iOS app give live streaming and settings from anywhere with an internet connection.
Runs on its own cell: A 1000mAh lithium battery gives about two to three hours away from the computer, and it draws power from USB when connected.
Local storage: microSD up to 32GB, kept on the device with no subscription.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A home office or a study

A mouse on your own desk is already doing a job. Recording from that position gives you a level view of the room without adding another device to the surface.

A workshop bench or a service desk

On premises you run, a bench computer already has a mouse. Tell your staff the area is recorded and it covers the bench through a shift.

A reception or a counter you manage

The desk position covers the counter and whoever is standing at it, with a notice up so people know recording happens.

How it Works

Charge it and fit a card: Charge the 1000mAh cell over USB and slide in a microSD card up to 32GB.
Put it on the desk in your own space: Set it on a desk or a bench inside premises you own or manage and plug it into the computer, where it works as an ordinary mouse.
Connect and arm it: Join it to your WiFi in the app on Android or iOS, switch on motion recording and alerts, and check live view when you want to see the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it as a mouse while it records?

Yes. It functions as a wired computer mouse and captures video at the same time, which is what keeps it useful on the desk.

Does it record continuously or only on motion?

Both. Motion triggered recording keeps the card holding events, and continuous recording is available for the length of the battery or while it is drawing USB power.

How long does the battery last?

About two to three hours on the 1000mAh cell. Plugged into the computer it draws power from USB, so runtime is only a limit when it is away from a machine.

How much storage does it support?

A microSD card up to 32GB. At Full HD that is a useful run of motion clips rather than days of continuous footage.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record a space you own or control for your own security: your own home, a home office, a workbench or a counter in a business you run. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people who are recorded to be told, so put up a notice and tell staff and visitors. Never place it in a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom that is not yours, because intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave it off unless you need it. This is general information rather than legal advice.
