Description

The VIM-BWIFI is a Full HD WiFi camera in a transparent grey bottle, 150mm high and 100mm across, weighing 500g. Three lid types come in the box, and it works as a real water bottle: the camera compartment is sealed away from the liquid, so it can be filled and drunk from while the camera is running.

A 90 degree lens records 1920 x 1080p with audio to a microSD card up to 128GB. It joins your home WiFi for live view and settings in the app on Android or iOS, motion detection reaches about 6m, and a picture mode takes stills as well. Battery life is quoted at 120 to 480 minutes per charge depending on how much of that time is spent recording.

Features

Full HD with audio: 1920 x 1080p with sound recorded alongside the video, plus a separate picture mode for stills.
Remote live view: WiFi and the app on Android or iOS give live streaming, playback and settings from anywhere with an internet connection.
Motion alerts to 6m: Movement within about 6m starts a recording, so the card holds events rather than empty hours.
Two to eight hours per charge: The quoted range is 120 to 480 minutes, and where you land depends on how much of the session is spent recording rather than waiting.
Large card support: microSD up to 128GB, enough for a long run of Full HD clips.
It works as a water bottle: The camera compartment is sealed away from the liquid, so it can be filled and drunk from while the camera runs. Three lid types come in the box.
Portable: At 150 x 100mm and 500g it is carried rather than installed, and there is nothing to mount or wire in.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A workbench or a service desk you run

A bottle on a bench is an ordinary thing to find there and gives a level view of the work surface. Tell your staff the area is recorded.

A home office or a study

On your own desk it covers the room from the same height as everything else on the surface, and comes with you between rooms.

A balcony or a deck at your own house

The supplier names balconies among its uses. It sits on a table outside for a few hours at a time, covering your own outdoor space with no wiring.

How it Works

Charge it and fit a card: Charge the internal lithium ion cell over the supplied USB lead and slide in a microSD card up to 128GB.
Set it down in your own space: Stand it on a desk, a bench or a shelf inside premises you own or manage, with the 90 degree lens facing the area you want covered.
Connect and arm it: Join it to your home WiFi in the app, switch on motion recording within its 6m range, and check the live view when you want to see the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it actually hold water?

Yes. The manufacturer has confirmed it: the bottle can be filled with water and drunk from, and the camera compartment is sealed away from the liquid so it keeps working. Three lid types come in the box.

How long does it record on a charge?

The quoted figure is 120 to 480 minutes. The low end is continuous recording and the high end is mostly waiting on motion, so use motion triggering if you want the longer number.

What storage does it take?

microSD up to 128GB, not included. That is the largest card size in this group of products.

Does it record at night?

No infrared is listed for this model, so it needs ambient light in the room. If you need to record in darkness, choose a model with infrared.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record a space you own or control for your own security: your own home, a home office, a workbench, a deck or a balcony at your own house. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people who are recorded to be told, so put up a notice and tell staff and visitors. Never place it in a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom that is not yours, because intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave it off unless you need it. This is general information rather than legal advice.
