This is a card based trail camera with a solar panel built into the lid, not a cellular one. There is no SIM and no monthly cost: you walk up, connect your phone to the camera's own WiFi hotspot from within about 8m, and pull the footage off without opening the case.

1. Does this need WiFi or internet to work?

No. It records to SD card independently. The WiFi is only for connecting your phone directly to the camera when you're within 8m to download footage or change settings.

2. How long does the battery last?

Up to 18 months with regular sunlight. The solar panel continuously recharges the internal battery. In low light, backup AA batteries (4 required) provide additional power.

3. Can I view footage live from anywhere?

No. This camera uses direct WiFi hotspot, not cellular. You must be within 8m to connect your phone and view footage. For remote live viewing, consider a 4G cellular trail camera.

4. Will animals see the infrared lights at night?

Very unlikely. 940nm no-glow infrared gives off no visible red glow, so wildlife is far less likely to notice the camera at night.

5. What SD card should I use?

Class 10 or higher, up to 256GB. We recommend endurance-rated cards designed for continuous recording. Format the card in the camera before first use.

6. Is it waterproof?

Yes. IP66 rating means it's protected against heavy rain and dust. Do not submerge in water.

Is it legal to use this camera on my property in New Zealand?

Monitoring land you own or manage is generally lawful, and that covers the ordinary reasons for putting a camera out: wildlife, stock, gates, tracks, sheds and equipment. Keep the camera pointed at what you are actually watching.

The limits are about other people. If the camera also covers a neighbour's land, a road or a public track, keep the view to what you need and the footage secure: a business or farm recording people must follow the Privacy Act 2020, and even a householder can breach it if a recording is highly offensive. Never place a camera anywhere a person would reasonably expect privacy: making an intimate visual recording is a criminal offence under the Crimes Act 1961.
