Description

The VIM-WIFISMOKE3 is a 1080p WiFi camera in a smoke alarm housing, designed to mount on a ceiling or high wall in a room of your own. From up there the lens looks down across the whole room, which is a view a shelf mounted camera cannot get.

A 5000mAh battery plus PIR wake gives 6 to 8 months of standby, or run it from the supplied DC adapter for continuous 24/7 recording. PIR detects movement to about 5m, no-glow infrared covers about 3m in the dark, and it saves to a microSD card up to 128GB or records straight to your phone while you watch.

Features

6 to 8 months standby: a 5000mAh battery with PIR wake, so a ceiling mount does not mean a ladder every fortnight.
Ceiling viewpoint: mounted where a smoke alarm goes, it looks down across the room rather than along it.
Mains or battery: run it from the supplied DC adapter for continuous 24/7 recording, or on the battery for motion triggered cover.
PIR detection to about 5m: a passive infrared sensor triggers on movement and pushes an alert to your phone.
1080p over P2P WiFi: 1920 x 1080 streamed to Android or iOS, with settings adjustable in the app.
No-glow infrared to about 3m: records close range in a dark room without adding visible light to it.
Record to card or phone: save to a microSD card up to 128GB, or record directly to your handset while watching live.
Bracket supplied: the mounting bracket and power adapter are both in the box.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Room In Your Own Home Or Office

A ceiling position covers the whole floor of a room, including the parts a shelf camera cannot see. With notice up where other people use the space, it covers a hallway or an entry properly.

Somewhere You Cannot Easily Get Back To

6 to 8 months of standby is what makes a ceiling mount practical. Fit it once, and check in from the app rather than getting the ladder out again.

A Storeroom Or Back Corridor You Run

Premises you manage where stock moves. Run it from the DC adapter for continuous cover during trading hours, and let PIR handle the nights.

How it Works

Mount it: fit the supplied bracket to a ceiling or high wall so the lens looks down across the room.
Connect: join it to WiFi in the Android or iOS app for live view, settings and push alerts.
Choose the power mode: battery with PIR wake for 6 to 8 months of standby, or the supplied DC adapter for continuous 24/7 recording.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I mount this and stay within the law?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. This is general information, not legal advice.

Where does the lens actually look?

The lens is in the face of the unit, so mounted on a ceiling or high wall it looks down across the room. That is the reason to choose this shape over a shelf mounted camera.

How long does the battery last?

6 to 8 months of standby with PIR wake, depending on how often it triggers. For continuous recording use the supplied DC adapter instead: the battery figure is standby, not recording time.

How does motion recording work?

The PIR sensor detects movement up to about 5m, starts recording and sends a push notification to your phone.

Does it record at night?

Yes, with no-glow infrared covering about 3m. That is short range, so it suits a corridor or a doorway below the unit rather than a large room.

Where do the files go?

To a microSD card in the unit, up to 128GB. You can also record directly to your phone while watching the live stream.
