The VIM-WIFISMOKE6 is a 1080p WiFi camera in a smoke detector housing. It mounts on a ceiling or a high wall on a bracket, with no cable to run and no power point needed nearby, which puts the lens where the view of a room actually is. It does not detect smoke.

A PIR sensor triggers on body heat to about 5m and starts recording in about a second. Infrared covers a dark room to about 5m without adding any light to it, dual band WiFi carries live view and push alerts to the app, and the 6000mAh cell holds six to eight months of standby between charges. Video is written locally to a microSD card up to 128GB.

Does it work as a real smoke alarm?

No. The housing is a smoke detector shape and nothing more, so it does not sense smoke and must not be relied on for fire safety. Keep a certified smoke alarm in the room as well.

How long does one charge last?

Six to eight months on standby with the PIR sensor armed. Recording, live viewing and frequent alerts all draw more, so a busy room will need charging sooner.

Does it need my WiFi to work?

Yes for live view and alerts. It joins a 2.4GHz or 5GHz router, and recording to the microSD card continues even if the connection drops.

How far does it see in the dark?

Infrared covers about 5m. That is enough for a normal room, and it records without adding any visible light to the space.

Where is the footage stored?

On a microSD card in the camera, up to 128GB, at no ongoing cost. The camera runs on the Tuya platform, which also sells an optional cloud subscription if you would rather keep a copy off the device, but the card works on its own and you never have to subscribe to use the camera.
