The VIM-POWERWIFI2 is a mains plug adapter with a 5V 2A USB-C output and a 1080p camera behind the front panel. Because it is the power supply, it never needs charging: plug it into a socket and it records continuously for as long as it is there.

The lens covers 110 degrees with 30 degrees of vertical adjustment behind a magnetic front panel, it has infrared for dark rooms and a microphone for audio, and it joins 2.4GHz WiFi for live view, alerts and playback in the app. Storage is microSD up to 128GB with loop recording.

Where can I plug this in and stay within the law?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. Both. Turn on 24/7 continuous recording or motion activated capture in the app, whichever suits the room.

How do I aim it once it is plugged in?

The lens has a 110 degree field of view and 30 degrees of vertical adjustment. Take the magnetic front panel off with the supplied suction cup, tilt the lens, and put the panel back.

Will it work on my WiFi?

It connects to 2.4GHz networks only. 5GHz is not supported, so on a combined network you may need to split the bands.

What storage should I use?
