Description

The VIM-MINIPOW is a 1080p camera in a power bank shell, 70 x 40 x 12mm and 35g. One thing to know before you buy: it does not charge other devices. The shell is the shape of a power bank but the whole of the inside is camera and battery.

It records 1920 x 1080 through a 75 degree lens with automatic no-glow infrared, runs about five hours continuously or up to two days of motion triggered clips on its 650mAh cell, and saves to a microSD card up to 32GB. One button operates it, with no app and no network needed.

Features

Very small: 70 x 40 x 12mm and 35g, thin enough to sit flat on a shelf or in a drawer.
1080p Full HD: 1920 x 1080 recording through a 75 degree lens.
Automatic no-glow infrared: records in a dark room without adding visible light to it, switching on by itself as the light drops.
Motion detection: about five hours of continuous recording, or up to two days of triggered clips, from the 650mAh battery.
One button operation: no app, no account and no network. Press and it records.
USB transfer: connect to a computer to charge and to copy files off the card.
It does not charge devices: worth repeating, because the shape suggests otherwise. This is a camera, not a working power bank.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Space With Almost No Room

12mm thick and 35g, so it fits in a drawer, on a shelf edge or inside a cabinet in a room of your own where nothing larger would go.

Short Sessions In Your Own Premises

About five hours continuous, which suits a single session rather than a permanent installation. For anything longer, motion mode stretches it to a couple of days of triggered clips.

Somewhere With No Network

There is no app and nothing to connect. It records to the card and you read the card, which is the whole workflow.

How it Works

Charge and load: charge the 650mAh battery over USB and fit a microSD card up to 32GB.
Choose the mode: continuous for about five hours, or motion detection for up to two days of triggered clips.
Retrieve: connect it to a computer over USB and copy the files off the card.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I legally use this?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does it work as a real power bank?

No. It is a camera only and it will not charge a phone or anything else. The power bank shape is the housing, not a second function, and it is worth being clear about that before you buy.

How long does it record?

About five hours of continuous recording on the 650mAh battery. In motion detection mode it can cover up to two days of triggered clips, because it is only recording when something happens.

How do I get the footage off?

Connect it to a computer with the USB cable and copy the files from the microSD card. There is no app.

What card does it take?

microSD up to 32GB, which is not supplied. That is a smaller limit than most cameras in this range, so motion mode is the sensible default.

Does it record in the dark?

Yes. The infrared is automatic and no-glow, so it records in a dark room without adding any visible light to it.
