Description

The VIM-PCAM1080IR is a 5200mAh power bank with a 1080p camera behind an 80 degree pinhole lens. It is a working power bank, so it charges your own devices while it records, and it runs 8 hours continuously or up to 48 hours in motion mode.

It records 1920 x 1080 with audio at 25 to 30fps from a 1/4 inch CMOS sensor, with a time and date stamp, to a microSD card up to 128GB. Motion detection reaches about 6m and is specified for daylight only, so for a dark room use continuous recording instead.

Features

Up to 48 hours in motion mode: the 5200mAh cell gives 8 hours of continuous recording, or up to 48 hours when it only records on movement.
It charges your devices: a working power bank, which is a real second function rather than a shape.
1080p with audio: 1920 x 1080 at 25 to 30fps from a 1/4 inch CMOS sensor, with a time and date stamp.
80 degree lens: a broad view from a fixed position, covering a desk or a small room.
Motion detection to about 6m: specified for daylight conditions. There is no infrared, so use continuous recording for a dark room.
128GB storage: microSD up to 128GB, transferred to a computer over USB.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Two Days Of Daytime Cover

Motion mode on the 5200mAh battery reaches up to 48 hours, which covers a long weekend at a space you own without a socket anywhere near it.

A Desk Or Bench In Your Own Premises

Somewhere a power bank belongs on a desk. It charges phones for whoever is working there, and it covers the bench during daylight hours.

Somewhere You Need Power As Well As A Camera

A site or a room where the useful thing is having a charged phone and a record of the day. This does both from one item rather than two.

How it Works

Charge and load: charge the 5200mAh battery, which takes about three hours, and fit a microSD card up to 128GB.
Choose the mode: continuous for up to 8 hours of unbroken recording, or motion activated for up to 48 hours of daytime cover.
Retrieve: connect it over USB and copy the files, which carry a time and date stamp, onto a computer.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I legally use this?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do the two recording modes differ?

Continuous records for up to 8 hours. Motion mode records only when movement is detected and stretches operation to as much as 48 hours, at the cost of missing anything that happens without triggering the sensor.

Does it work in the dark?

Motion detection is specified for daylight, up to about 6m, and the specification we hold lists no infrared emitter. For a dark room use continuous recording, or choose a camera with infrared instead.

What storage does it take?

A microSD card up to 128GB. Files transfer to a computer over USB for review and archiving.

What is the field of view?

About 80 degrees from the pinhole lens, which covers a desk or a small room from one fixed position.

Does it really charge devices?

Yes. It is a working 5200mAh power bank as well as a camera, so it charges a phone while it records.
