Description

The VIM-WATCHR7 is a 43mm wristwatch, 13mm thick and 123 grams, with a 1080p camera in the case. Storage is 16GB of built in memory, so there is no card to buy or lose.

It records Full HD 1920 x 1080p at 30fps with audio and a date and time stamp, takes stills, and has automatic infrared for close range in a dim room, out to about half a metre. One button drives it, and files come off over USB with nothing to install.

Features

  • Built in storage: 16GB of built in memory, confirmed by the manufacturer, so there is no card to buy or fit.
  • 1080p with audio: Full HD at 30fps with sound, and a date and time stamp on every file.
  • One button: Start and stop without menus, which is the only sensible interface on a watch.
  • Close range infrared: Automatic infrared out to about half a metre for a dim room.
  • A real watch: Water resistant, 43mm across and 13mm thick, sized to wear rather than to carry.
  • Direct USB transfer: Connect to a computer and copy the files, no software required.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Recording Your Own Work

An inspection, a handover or a front of house interaction where a record of what happened is worth keeping, made by you while you are there.

An Incident You Are Part Of

A recording made by someone present is evidence, and a watch is the one device you are already wearing when it happens.

Documenting a Property You Own

Walk a site you own or manage and record its condition hands free.

A Meeting You Are In

70 to 90 minutes covers most meetings, and you are a party to the conversation, which is what makes recording it lawful here.

How it Works

  1. Charge and load: charge over USB. Storage is the 16GB of built in memory, so there is nothing to fit.
  2. Start recording: press the single button to record video with audio, or take a still.
  3. Retrieve the files: connect to a computer over USB and copy the files across.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I record on a charge?

About 70 to 90 minutes at 1080p, depending on settings and conditions.

How close does the night vision work?

Half a metre, which is genuinely close. It is there for reading something in a dim room at arm's length rather than for covering a space.

How much recording does it hold?

16GB of built in memory, which the manufacturer has confirmed as the storage for this model. Copy footage off over USB when you want to keep it.

Does it record audio?

Yes, with a stated pickup range of 1 to 3 metres. Audio is treated more strictly than video in New Zealand, so keep it to conversations you are part of.

Can I record with this legally in New Zealand?

Worn and used while you are present, yes. You are a party to what happens in front of you, and recording a conversation you are part of is lawful here, as is filming in a place you own or control. What you cannot do is leave it recording a conversation you are not part of, take it into a bathroom, changing area or anywhere else with a reasonable expectation of privacy, or record intimate footage, which is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961.
