Description

The VIM-DOCKCAM3 is a three way wireless charging station, for a phone, a smartwatch and earbuds, with a 1080p camera in the housing. It is mains powered by design, so it records around the clock with nothing to recharge, on a desk or a bedside table in your own home or office.

It records 1920 x 1080 at 25fps through a 90 degree lens with audio, joins your WiFi router for live view and motion alerts on Android or iOS, and saves to a microSD card. The phone pad charges at 7.5W or 10W, horizontally or vertically, with temperature, overcharge, short circuit and overvoltage protection.

Features

Charges three devices: a phone at 7.5W or 10W, a smartwatch at 2W and earbuds at 3W, from one mains socket.
Runs 24/7 on mains power: no battery to manage, so continuous recording needs no planning.
1080p with audio: 1920 x 1080 at 25fps in H.264 from a 2MP sensor, with a built-in microphone.
90 degree lens: covers a desk and the area in front of it from stand height.
WiFi live view: joins your router over 802.11 b/g/n and streams to the free Android or iOS app with pop-up motion alerts.
Horizontal or vertical charging: the phone sits either way up and keeps charging.
Full charging protection: temperature, overcharge, short circuit and overvoltage protection built in.
Local storage: records video and audio to a microSD card in the unit.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Bedside Table Or Desk In Your Own Home

Somewhere a three way charger genuinely earns its place, because the phone, the watch and the earbuds all end up there overnight anyway. Mains power means the camera runs whenever the charger does.

Your Own Office Desk

It replaces a cluster of chargers with one unit and covers the room while you are out of it. Motion alerts flag movement rather than leaving a day of footage to review.

Reception Or Staff Area You Run

Premises you manage, with a notice at the entrance so people know the area is recorded. Everyone gets somewhere to charge, and the space is covered during working hours.

How it Works

Plug it in: set it where you want the room covered and connect the supplied DC 5V adapter. It needs a permanent supply for 24/7 recording.
Connect: install the free Android or iOS app and join the dock to your WiFi router.
Record and review: choose continuous or motion triggered recording, then watch live or play back from the microSD card in the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I put this and stay within the law?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does it run continuously when plugged in?

Yes. Powered from the supplied adapter it supports 24/7 operation, either recording continuously or only on motion.

Can the phone charge upright and sideways?

Both. The pad charges a phone horizontally or vertically at 7.5W or 10W while the camera keeps recording.

Which WiFi does it use?

IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, joining your own router, then streaming to the free Android or iOS app for live view and alerts.

Does it record sound?

Yes. A built-in microphone records audio alongside the 1080p video. Audio is regulated more strictly than video, so keep it to spaces you control and tell people it is running.

How is footage stored?

To a microSD card in the unit. Use a good quality card rated for continuous 1080p recording.
