Description

The VIM-4GV90 is the small end of this range built for 4K: a 12MP sensor on a lens no bigger than a shirt button, on a flexible cable, with a 4G recorder behind it.

It records ULTRA HD 4K, 2K or 1080p to a microSD card up to 128GB, with a 90 degree field of view and a built in microphone. 940nm infrared records in a dark room without adding any visible light, which matters when the alternative is a red glow that ruins the exposure. Motion detection starts a clip and sends a push alert. The internal battery runs it for about two to three days, a power bank extends that, and the supplied DC adapter gives continuous 24/7 operation. Draw is 250mA at 3.7V.

Features

4G remote access: Insert a SIM to stream live video and take alerts on your phone without any local WiFi.
4K detail: A 12MP sensor recording ULTRA HD 4K holds enough resolution to identify detail once you crop into the frame afterwards.
Night recording at 940nm: Infrared at 940nm records in a dark room without adding visible light, so the exposure is not spoiled by a red glow.
Motion alerts: Motion detection starts a clip and pushes a notification, so you are told rather than having to check.
Flexible power: Two to three days on the internal battery, longer with a power bank, or continuous duty from the included DC adapter.
Local recording: Footage is written to a microSD card up to 128GB, so a dropped mobile connection does not cost you the clip.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Workshops and sheds you own

A workshop with tools in it rarely has a network. The 4G recorder covers that, and the small lens fits above a bench where a full camera will not.

Storage rooms and back of house

In premises you own or manage, the flexible cable lets the lens sit above shelving or a doorway, with the body mounted out of the way behind it.

Offices you are responsible for

Where you manage the space, a fixed 4K view of an entry or a store cupboard gives you a usable record. Tell the people who work there that recording happens.

How it Works

Place the lens, then the body: The lens is on a flexible cable, so it can sit in a tight space on your own premises while the recorder goes somewhere you can reach to change the card.
Insert a data SIM: A 4G SIM with data is the only connection needed. Live view and playback then work from the app with no broadband on site.
Choose the runtime: Two to three days on the internal battery, longer on a power bank, or permanent 24/7 recording from the supplied DC adapter.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it need WiFi to work?

No. With a SIM inserted the camera uses 4G for remote live view and alerts. It can also run on local power for continuous use.

How is footage stored?

Recordings are saved to a microSD card inside the unit. You can review clips through the app or by reading the card on a computer.

How long will the battery last?

About two to three days per charge. A power bank extends that, and the DC adapter supports 24/7 operation.

Can it record in darkness?

Yes. The 940nm infrared records in an unlit room without adding visible light to it, so the footage stays usable at night.

Where is the lens?

On a flexible cable, separate from the main body, so the lens can go where the view is while the recorder stays accessible.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record premises you own or control, such as your own workshop, shed, stockroom, shop floor or vehicle, to protect property and gather evidence. Under the Privacy Act 2020 you should tell people who work there that recording happens, and you must not point a camera into a place where someone reasonably expects privacy, such as a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom. Recording audio of a conversation you are not part of is treated more strictly than video under the Crimes Act 1961. This is general information, not legal advice.
