The VIM-DUALMX3 records front and rear at 1080p through a Sony Exmor CMOS sensor and a 140 degree lens at each end, with GPS coordinates, speed and route written into every file. A supercapacitor runs it instead of a lithium cell, so heat cycling in a parked bike does not eat the power source, and the hardwire kit keeps parking mode alive after the ignition is off. WiFi puts clips on your phone, OBD-II logging adds RPM and throttle, and the picture in picture player replays the video with the map beside it.

Does it record while the bike is parked?

Yes, provided the hardwire kit is on a constant feed. With the ignition off the system moves to parking mode and records on motion rather than continuously, which is what makes an overnight watch practical.

Why a supercapacitor rather than a battery?

Heat tolerance and lifespan. Lithium cells lose capacity and can swell when they are repeatedly heat cycled, which is exactly what happens to anything mounted on a bike left in the sun. A supercapacitor handles that duty cycle far better, and this unit adds automatic temperature control and over voltage protection on top.

Can I view footage on my phone?

Yes. WiFi 802.11n connects the unit to the smartphone app on iOS or Android for live view, downloads and settings, with no cable and no card removal.

Does the GPS need a phone or a data plan?

No. The GPS receiver and its external antenna are built into the unit and write location straight into the video file. No SIM, no data plan, no phone needed while riding.

Is installation difficult?

It is the same job as fitting heated grips: the hardwire kit goes onto a 12 V accessory line and the cameras mount on the included bracket with 2.5 m extension cables. Most people allow half an hour to an hour. If you are not comfortable working on the loom, a bike shop will fit it quickly.

Is footage from this useful for an insurance claim?

It gives you a dated, timed record of what happened with speed and location attached, which is far stronger than a recollection.
