The VIM-EXAMCAM2 is a wearable two way assistance kit. A 40 x 40 x 15mm pinhole camera on a 65mm neck streams live 1080p video to a phone, and an 11 x 7mm nano earpiece lets the person watching that phone talk back to whoever is wearing the camera.
The camera builds its own WiFi hotspot instead of joining a network, so the phone connects to it directly and the link works anywhere inside about 10 to 20 metres with no internet, no SIM and no data cost. A flat 60 x 14 x 5mm induction transmitter, joined to the camera by a 145cm lead, pairs to that same phone over Bluetooth and passes audio to the earpiece by magnetic induction. The camera runs 4 to 5 hours on a micro USB charge; the earpiece runs 75 to 150 minutes on a replaceable cell and ships with two spares.
No. The camera creates its own WiFi hotspot and the phone joins that directly, so there is no internet connection anywhere in the chain. That is also why the link only reaches about 10 to 20 metres.
Around 10 to 20 metres in practice. Walls, floors and metal cut that down. Both people need to be in the same room or very close to it, so this is not a kit for guidance from another building.
No. Audio runs one way, from the phone to the earpiece. The wearer replies by speaking normally to whoever is with them.
The camera runs 4 to 5 hours on a charge. The earpiece is the shorter half at 75 to 150 minutes on one cell, and two spares are in the box, so swapping a cell carries the session on.
The published specification covers live view to the app only. Treat it as a live link rather than a recorder.
New Zealand law is specific here. Making an intimate visual recording of somebody without their consent is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961, and using a device to intercept a private conversation you are not a party to is an offence under the same Act. Collecting personal information about identifiable people also brings the Privacy Act 2020 into play, and schools, universities and testing centres set their own rules that generally prohibit any wireless device during an assessment. Use this kit where the people around you know it is there and have agreed to it. This is general information and not legal advice.
