Description

The LawMate PV-RC200HDW is the WiFi fob. It streams a 2K Quad HD live view to your phone while recording 1080p at 30fps to the card, so what you watch is sharper than what you store, and the files stay a sensible size.

Vibration confirms power, recording and low battery, so you can work by feel. Motion detection pushes a notification when it sees movement. The 650mAh cell gives about 75 minutes, and the card slot takes up to 32GB.

Features

2K live, 1080p recorded: Quad HD streaming to the app for detail while you watch, 1080p on the card to keep files manageable.
WiFi and an app: Live view, recording control and settings from an Android or iOS phone.
Motion alerts: Movement in frame pushes a notification so you know without watching.
Vibration feedback: Power, recording, photo and low battery each have their own buzz.
Case supplied: A key fob case comes in the box along with the camera.
Time and date stamped: Overlaid into the recording, which is what makes it usable as a record.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Recording Your Own Work

A job, an inspection or a delivery where a record of what you did is worth keeping, and you are the one holding it.

An Incident You Are Part Of

Being present is what makes recording reasonable, and the live view means a second person can see it too.

Documenting a Property You Own

Walk a site you own or manage while a colleague watches the live view from elsewhere.

Your Own Vehicle

It is a key fob and it lives in the car. Tell your passengers before they get in.

How it Works

Charge and load: charge the fob and fit a microSD card up to 32GB.
Start recording: connect it to the app over WiFi for the 2K live view, or just press to record.
Retrieve the files: copy the 1080p MOV files off over USB, or pull them through the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2K figure the recording quality?

No. 2K Quad HD is what streams to the phone. Files saved on the card are Full HD 1080p. That gives you the sharper picture while you watch and smaller files to keep.

How do I know it is recording without looking?

Vibration. Power on and off, start of recording, photo and low battery each have their own alert.

How much fits on a card?

The card limit is 32GB, and the supplier gives 75 minutes of 1080p per 8GB, so a full 32GB card holds around five hours.

What is the sensor actually?

The supplier calls it 2MP but gives the sensor resolution as 2304 x 1536, which works out at about 3.5MP. We have printed both figures rather than picking one.

Does it record sound?

Yes. It offers video plus audio recording through a built-in microphone, so footage plays back with sound. Audio carries stricter rules in New Zealand than video: recording a private conversation you are not a party to is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961, so only record conversations you are part of.

Can I record with this legally in New Zealand?

Carried and used while you are present, yes. You are a party to what happens in front of you, and recording a conversation you are part of is lawful here, as is filming in a place you own or control. What you cannot do is leave it recording a conversation you are not part of, use it in a bathroom or changing area, or record intimate footage, which is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. In a vehicle, tell your passengers before they get in.
