Description

At 75 x 25 x 15mm and 60g, the VIM-MINICAM3 is small enough to sit on a shelf edge or inside a housing you make for it, and it comes with an extension lens so the lens and the body do not have to be in the same place.

It records 720p at 30fps to a microSD card up to 128GB with loop recording, joins your home router for live view and playback on a phone, and sends a notification when it sees movement. Infrared keeps it working in a dark room. The 300mAh cell is small, so this is a camera to run on power rather than one to leave on a shelf for a week.

Features

Genuinely small: 75 x 25 x 15mm and 60g, with an extension lens supplied so the lens can be sited away from the body.
720p recording: 1080 x 720p at 30fps in AVI format to your own card.
Live view on your phone: Joins your home router, then streams and plays back through the app on Android or iOS.
Motion notifications: Movement starts a recording and pushes an alert to your phone.
Infrared: Keeps recording in a dark room.
Loop recording: The oldest files are overwritten once the card fills, so the latest events survive.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Small Space in Your Own Home

The size is the reason to choose it. A shelf, a cabinet or a bookcase in your own front room takes it where a camera body would not go.

Checking In On Your Own Pets

Live view over your own router answers the question you actually have, which is what the dog is doing at eleven in the morning.

Your Own Entryway

Motion alerts on a door you own are more useful than a recording you find later. Keep it on the supplied adapter so the battery is not the limit.

A Storeroom You Manage

Fit it inside a housing on a shelf and put a notice up so anyone working in the room knows it is recorded.

How it Works

Set it up: fit a microSD card, connect the extension lens if you need it and power the camera from the supplied adapter.
Pair it: join it to your home WiFi through the app and set motion detection or continuous recording.
Watch or review: watch live, review clips in the app, or read the card using the supplied USB adapter.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it record on a charge?

About 120 minutes. The 300mAh cell is small, so treat this as a camera you run on the supplied adapter or a power bank rather than one you leave running on battery.

How far will the WiFi reach?

The specification gives up to 6m from the router indoors, which is short. Put it in the same room as the router or use a repeater if the signal has walls to get through.

Does it record in the dark?

Yes. Infrared keeps it recording in a dark room without adding visible light to it.

What happens when the card is full?

Loop recording overwrites the oldest files, so the most recent footage is always the footage that survives.

Can I record with this legally in New Zealand?

Yes, in a place you own or control: your own home, your own business premises. The Privacy Act 2020 expects you to be open about it, so tell the people who live or work in the space, and put a notice up in a business. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms that are not yours are out, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave it out unless you are part of the conversation.
