Description

The VIM-MINIPIRCAM is 48 x 35 x 25mm and 44 grams, with a magnetic back clip and an adjustable mount that rotates horizontally and vertically. It goes onto a metal surface in a second and points where you need it.

A PIR thermal sensor triggers recording on body heat rather than on light and shadow, and ten 940nm infrared LEDs take over when it gets dark. It records Full HD 1080p to a microSD card up to 128GB with loop recording, running eight hours continuously or up to thirty days on PIR standby.

Features

Magnetic mount: A magnetic back clip plus an adjustable stand that rotates in both axes, so placement takes seconds.
PIR thermal detection: Triggers on body heat, which cuts out the recordings that a pet or a moving curtain would otherwise cause.
Ten 940nm infrared LEDs: Records a dark room without adding any visible light to it.
Thirty day standby: On PIR it waits a month; recording continuously it runs eight hours.
Loop recording to 128GB: Oldest files are overwritten so the newest footage always survives.
44 grams: Light enough to sit on a magnetic surface without a bracket.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Your Own Garage or Workshop

Steel shelving and a magnetic clip is the combination this camera is built around. It goes up without drilling anything.

Your Own Storeroom

PIR triggering plus thirty days of standby covers a room you visit weekly rather than daily.

Your Own Hallway After Dark

Ten 940nm LEDs cover a dark hall, and the PIR only starts it when someone is actually in it.

A Property You Own and Leave Empty

A month of standby means you can set it when you leave and collect the card when you come back. Tell anyone who holds a key.

How it Works

Charge and load: charge the 1200mAh cell and fit a microSD card up to 128GB.
Set the mode: stick the magnetic clip to a metal surface, or use the mount, and angle it at what you want covered.
Record and retrieve: set PIR mode and leave it, or plug it in for continuous recording. Read the card on a computer afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it last on a charge?

Eight hours if it is recording the whole time, or up to thirty days sitting on PIR standby waiting for movement. Plugged in, it runs indefinitely.

What does 940nm mean?

It is the wavelength of the infrared LEDs. At 940nm the light is outside the range your eye can see, so the camera can record a dark room without a light being added to it.

What is PIR thermal detection?

The sensor reads body heat, so it starts on a person or an animal rather than on a change in the picture. That is what makes a month of standby possible.

Where can I mount it?

Anywhere magnetic, using the back clip, or on the supplied stand which rotates horizontally and vertically.

Does it record sound?

Yes. It offers video plus audio recording through a built-in microphone, so footage plays back with sound. Audio carries stricter rules in New Zealand than video: recording a private conversation you are not a party to is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961, so only record conversations you are part of.

Can I record with this legally in New Zealand?

Yes, in a place you own or control: your own home, your own garage, your own business premises. The Privacy Act 2020 expects you to be open about it, so tell the people who live or work in the space, and put a notice up in a business. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms that are not yours are out, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961.
