Description

The VIM-BOOKCAM2 is a Full HD WiFi camera in a book sized housing, made to stand on a shelf or a desk at the height of everything else in the room rather than looking down from a ceiling.

A pinhole lens covering 90 degrees records 1920 x 1080p at 25fps in H.264, with audio from a built in microphone. It joins your WiFi for live view and playback in the app on Android or iOS, motion detection starts a recording and pushes an alert, and footage goes to a microSD card up to 128GB. A 3000mAh cell runs it without a cable. Files play in VLC or SM Player on Windows or macOS.

Features

Full HD with audio: 1920 x 1080p at 25fps in H.264, with sound recorded from a built in microphone alongside the video.
Shelf height view: A book sized housing stands where books stand, which gives a level view across a room rather than a downward one from a ceiling.
Remote live view and playback: WiFi and the app on Android or iOS give live streaming, saved clip playback and settings from anywhere with an internet connection.
Motion alerts: Movement starts a recording and sends a push notification to the phone.
Large card support: microSD up to 128GB, enough for a long run of motion clips at Full HD.
Cordless: A 3000mAh cell runs it with no cable and no socket, charged over the supplied micro USB lead.
Plays anywhere: Recordings open in VLC or SM Player on Windows 7, 8 and 10 or macOS.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A study or a home office

A shelf in your own study gives a level view of the room and the door, and the app lets you look in from anywhere.

A small office or a consulting room you run

On premises you manage, a shelf position covers the room without mounting anything to the wall. Put up a notice and tell your staff that the area is recorded.

A holiday house between stays

A bookshelf in your own bach is a sensible place to leave a camera recording on motion while the house is empty.

How it Works

Charge it and fit a card: Charge the 3000mAh cell over the supplied micro USB cable and slide in a microSD card up to 128GB.
Stand it on a shelf in your own space: Put it on a bookshelf or a desk inside premises you own or manage, with the 90 degree lens facing the area you want covered.
Connect and arm it: Join it to your WiFi in the app, switch on motion recording and push alerts, and use live view and playback whenever you want to check the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I watch it remotely?

Join it to your WiFi and use the free app on Android or iOS. You get live view, playback of saved clips and settings from anywhere with an internet connection.

Does it record audio as well as video?

Yes, through a built in microphone. Audio is treated more strictly than video in New Zealand law, so switch it off if you do not need it.

What storage cards does it take?

microSD up to 128GB, which is the largest in the book format and enough for a long run of Full HD motion clips.

What is the viewing angle?

90 degrees, which covers a normal room from a shelf. Point the spine at the area you want in shot, because the lens looks out of the front of the housing.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record a space you own or control for your own security: your own home, a study, a holiday house you own or an office you manage. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people who are recorded to be told, so put up a notice and tell staff, guests and visitors. Never place it in a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom that is not yours, because intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave it off unless you need it. This is general information rather than legal advice.
