Description

The VIM-HUBCAM is a working USB hub with a camera in it. Six powered ports across three ratings, so it does the job a hub is bought for, and it sits at desk height where a camera can actually see a room.

It joins your WiFi for live view on Android or iOS, streams at Ultra HD 2160p, and records to a microSD card up to 128GB with motion alerts. A 90 degree lens covers a desk and the area in front of it, and it runs continuously on mains power.

Features

A hub that works: Six powered USB ports, at 0.5V, 1.0V and 1.5V pairs, so it earns its place next to a computer.
4K live streaming: Ultra HD 2160p in the app for the detail you need while watching.
Runs continuously: Designed for 24/7 operation on mains power rather than for battery use.
Motion alerts: Movement pushes a notification to your phone and starts a recording.
Local storage: Records to a microSD card up to 128GB, not to a cloud account.
Wide operating range: Rated from minus 10 to 60 degrees Celsius, which covers a garage or an unheated room.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Your Own Desk at Home

A hub belongs next to a computer, and desk height is a better place to see a room from than a shelf.

Your Own Home Office While You Are Out

Continuous recording on mains power covers the room. Anyone else who uses that room should be told about the camera.

A Workshop or Garage You Own

The minus 10 to 60 degree operating range covers an unheated space where a lot of cameras will not run.

A Business Premises You Manage, Out of Hours

Continuous recording while the building is empty. If people work in the room, it needs a notice on the wall rather than a camera they do not know about.

How it Works

Fit the card: fit a microSD card up to 128GB and connect the hub to its power adapter.
Pair it: join it to your WiFi in the app and set motion detection or continuous recording.
Watch or review: watch the live stream from your phone, or take the card out and review the recordings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution does it record at?

The supplier states 2160p for the live streaming mode and does not publish a separate recording resolution for this model. Most cameras in this class record at 1080p while streaming higher, so ask us before ordering if the stored file resolution matters to you.

Does the hub still work as a hub?

Yes. It has six powered USB ports and they work normally while the camera is recording.

Does it need WiFi to record?

No. WiFi is needed for live view and alerts, but video is stored locally on a microSD card up to 128GB.

Does it run on battery?

No. It is a mains device built for continuous operation, which suits a hub that is going to be plugged in anyway.

Can I use this on my own premises legally?

Yes, in a place you own or control: your own home, your own home office, your own business premises. Where people work, the Privacy Act 2020 and the Employment Relations Act 2000 make monitoring staff without telling them very hard to justify, so a camera in a room where people work needs a notice on the wall. Bathrooms and changing areas are out entirely, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video, so leave the microphone off unless you are part of the conversation.
