Description

The VIM-SPYSNAKECAM is a WiFi camera on a flexible neck, 290mm long and 285g, that bends and holds its shape so the lens can be aimed exactly where you need it and then left there. A back clip, a screw pack and a 3M sticker are supplied for fixing it.

A full glass CMOS fisheye lens records Full HD 1920 x 1080p as MP4 in H.264 plus, with a built in microphone and speaker for two way audio. It joins a 2.4GHz network for live view, motion alerts and scheduled recording in the app, and it records to a microSD card up to 128GB. A 2000mAh cell gives up to five hours away from power.

Features

Flexible neck: A camera head of roughly 15 x 15mm sits on a bendable neck of about 145mm that holds its shape, so the lens can be aimed around a corner, along a shelf or down at a bench and then left in position.
Full HD through a glass fisheye: 1920 x 1080p as MP4 in H.264 plus, through a full glass CMOS fisheye lens rather than a plastic one.
Two way audio: A built in microphone and speaker let you listen and talk back through the app while you are watching live.
Scheduled recording: Set the windows that matter and it records only in them, which saves both card space and battery.
Motion alerts: Movement starts a recording and sends a notification to the phone over your own 2.4GHz network.
Five hours cordless: A 2000mAh cell runs it away from power, and it can be left on USB for longer sessions.
Three ways to fix it: A back clip, a screw pack and a 3M adhesive pad are all in the box.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A workshop bench or a plant room

The flexible neck reaches over or around an obstruction that a fixed camera cannot see past, and holds the aim once you have it. Tell your staff the area is recorded.

A garage or a store you own

Clipped to a shelf edge or stuck to a beam, it covers the door and the aisle from an angle no wall mount would give you.

A home office or a study

On your own desk it aims where you need it, records to a schedule and lets you speak through it when you check in from the app.

How it Works

Charge it and fit a card: Charge the 2000mAh cell over the supplied USB lead and slide in a microSD card up to 128GB.
Bend it into position: Fix it with the clip, the screws or the adhesive pad inside premises you own or manage, then bend the neck until the fisheye lens covers the area you want.
Connect and arm it: Join it to your 2.4GHz WiFi in the app, switch on motion alerts or set a recording schedule, and use two way audio when you want to speak into the room.

Specifications

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I view it remotely?

Join it to a 2.4GHz WiFi network and use the app for live view, playback, settings and motion alerts from anywhere with an internet connection.

Can I talk through the camera?

Yes. A built in microphone and speaker give two way audio, so you can listen and speak while watching live. Audio carries stricter rules than video in New Zealand, so use it deliberately.

How is the camera aimed?

The camera head itself is only about 15 x 15mm, and it sits on a bendable neck of roughly 145mm that holds its shape, so you set the angle by hand and it stays there. The 290 x 70 x 40mm figure in the specification is the whole unit including its base. That is what lets it look around an obstruction rather than straight ahead.

How wide is the view?

The lens is a full glass CMOS fisheye, but the supplier does not state an angle for it, so we do not quote one. Ask us before ordering if the exact coverage matters.

What can I lawfully record with a camera like this in New Zealand?

You can record a space you own or control for your own security: your own home, a home office, a workshop, a garage or a store you run. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people who are recorded to be told, so put up a notice and tell staff and visitors. Never aim it into a bathroom, a changing area or a bedroom that is not yours, because intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio and two way listening are treated more strictly than video, so leave them off unless you need them. This is general information rather than legal advice.
