Description

About 27 hours of 4K fits in the 128GB built into the VIM-PC-02, so nobody on a team has to issue, swap or chase memory cards between shifts. One charge is rated for up to 15 hours at 1080p, past the end of a 12 hour roster, and with pre-record on the camera keeps the 15 seconds before the record key goes down.

Hold the side key and red and blue lights flash above the lens while a siren sounds from the top speaker. It records 4K at 30fps through a 120 degree lens, sees to about 5 metres in the dark on infrared, and has a 2.0 inch screen for checking a clip at handover. There is no WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G or app: footage stays on the camera until it is copied to a computer over USB-C. A magnetic mount, a belt clip and a pocket clip all come in the box, and it is rated IP68 and for a 2 metre drop.

Features

  • 128GB built in: about 27 hours of 4K stays on the camera, with 116.5GB free for footage. There is no card slot, so there is no card to lose, swap between guards or leave at the depot.
  • Up to 15 hours at 1080p: the 4,200mAh battery runs past the end of a 12 hour roster at 1080p. 4K, night vision and a lit screen all draw more power, so trial one full shift on your own settings before rollout.
  • Pre-record on standby: with pre-record switched on in the menu, the camera holds a rolling 15 second buffer, so each clip opens before the record key is pressed. It only runs while the camera is already on.
  • 4K at 30fps: records 3840 x 2160 at 30 frames a second into MP4 (H.264) files that open on an ordinary office computer.
  • Siren with red and blue lights: hold the side key printed PTT to flash the two windows above the lens red and blue and sound a siren. It is a local alarm that sends no alert, and the key is not push-to-talk.
  • One press records from off: a single press on the record key wakes the camera and starts filming, so there is no start-up routine to teach a new starter.
  • Infrared night vision to 5 metres: set it to automatic in the menu, or long-press the photo key to switch it. Five metres covers a doorway or a loading dock, not an open car park.
  • 120 degree lens: takes in the person facing the wearer and the space to either side, so a second person stepping in from the edge stays in shot.
  • Laser aiming dot: a long press on the back key shows where the lens points, to check it after the mount shifts. Aim it at a wall or the floor, never at people.
  • Officer ID and date stamp: set a device ID and an officer ID in the menu, and clips are named by date and time, so footage from a shared pool of cameras traces back to a shift.
  • No single-clip delete: playback has no delete option, so single files are removed only on a computer over USB-C. The menu format wipes the whole memory and asks for a password, so set your own and collect cameras after each shift.
  • Password protection: switch it on in the menu and the camera asks for a password. Set one on each unit before the cameras go out to the team.
  • Key-file marker: tap the up (star) key during recording to tag that file, so the clip is easy to find when the incident report is written.
  • Photos while recording: the photo key takes a still without stopping the video, for a damaged door, a vehicle or a piece of identification.
  • Sound with video, or sound only: a menu setting decides whether video records sound or stays muted, and the audio key records sound on its own when no picture is needed.
  • Stealth mode: turns the indicator lights and key tones off for quiet foyers and night floors, while the camera stays worn openly on the chest.
  • Loop recording: on by default, so the oldest files make way once the 128GB fills. Switch it off when nothing may be overwritten, and copy footage off before the memory runs low.
  • Image stabilisation: electronic image stabilisation switches on or off in the menu. Test it at the resolution your team records in before relying on it for walking footage.
  • White LED torch: a long press of the audio key lights up a badge, a number plate or a lock at arm's length during a night check.
  • 2.0 inch screen: live view, playback and the menu all sit on the camera, so a supervisor can review a clip at handover without a phone or software.
  • Car mode: with car mode on, the camera starts recording each time it powers up. A USB car charger and dash holder are not included, and keep the lights and siren off in a vehicle.
  • Magnetic mount, belt clip and pocket clip: all three come with every camera, so each wearer can choose how it sits on their uniform without extra parts on the order.
  • IP68 and a 2 metre drop rating: sealed against rain and dust with the USB-C cover shut, and rated for a fall from above chest height if the mount is knocked.
  • 160g: at 89 x 64 x 37mm it is a little taller than a bank card, and light enough for the chest through a full shift.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Hospital Security on 12 Hour Rosters

Hospital security officers often work 12 hour rosters through emergency departments and car parks. Up to 15 hours at 1080p carries the camera through a roster, and stealth mode keeps the lights and tones off on quiet night wards while it is still worn in plain view.

One Pool of Cameras for a Whole Team

When cameras move between officers, memory cards are the first thing to go missing. With 128GB built in, footage stays inside the unit, and setting the officer ID at issue ties each camera to the person wearing it.

Door Staff at Licensed Premises

Door staff deal with people at close range in poor light. Infrared covers the first 5 metres in the dark, and holding the side key flashes red and blue with a siren to draw attention when a situation turns.

How it Works

  1. Set up each unit: charge for about 4 hours on the 5V 2A wall charger, then set the date, time, officer ID and password in the menu and turn pre-record on.
  2. Issue and wear: each wearer fits the camera on the mount that suits their uniform and presses record once when an incident starts.
  3. Copy off after the shift: connect the USB-C cable to a Windows 10 or 11 computer or a Mac and copy the files across.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it need WiFi, an app or a memory card?

No. Footage goes straight onto the 128GB built into the camera, and there is no WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G or app to set up, so there is no card to buy and no data plan. The trade-off is reach: nobody can watch it live, so footage is checked on the screen or copied off over USB-C.

Will the battery last a 12 hour shift?

At 1080p, yes on paper: a full charge is rated for up to 15 hours. 4K, infrared and keeping the screen lit all use more power, so run one shift on your chosen settings before issuing cameras. A full recharge takes about 4 hours on the supplied wall charger.

What happens when the 128GB is full?

With loop recording on, which is the default, the oldest files are overwritten so recording carries on. Turn loop off when nothing may be overwritten. The 128GB holds about 27 hours of 4K, so copy files off to a computer after each shift.

Can a guard delete footage on the camera?

Not clip by clip: playback has no delete option, and single files are removed on a computer. The menu format wipes the whole memory behind a password, and the footage is not encrypted, so set your own password and collect cameras after each shift.

Is the side key push-to-talk?

No. The side key is printed PTT, but on this camera it sets off the red and blue lights and the siren. There is no radio or network, so it sends no message to anyone. For push-to-talk over 4G, see the 4G and 5G body cameras.

How do we hand footage to Police or an insurer?

Connect the camera to a computer with the USB-C cable and copy the MP4 files across. Each file is named by the date and time it was recorded. Keep the original file untouched and send a copy, following your own records policy and the requester's instructions.

What do I need to know about wearing one on duty in New Zealand?

Body worn cameras are used here by agencies such as Corrections and court and fisheries officers, and by security staff, and filming openly in a public place or on premises you guard is lawful. Audio is the part to handle with care: under section 216B of the Crimes Act 1961 you may record a conversation you are part of, but not one you are only overhearing, so wear the camera openly and say that it records. An organisation deploying it needs a policy under the Privacy Act 2020 covering notice, retention, access and disclosure, staff who wear it or are filmed by it should be consulted under the good faith duty in the Employment Relations Act 2000, and paid security work needs a certificate of approval under the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010. The lights and siren draw attention but give no authority, and passing yourself off as Police is an offence under the Policing Act 2008. Never point the laser at anyone. This is general information, not legal advice.
