The VIM-FRAMECAM is a 2K camera in a 17.8 x 12.7cm photo frame, with a PIR sensor and a 10,000mAh battery that gives up to 180 days of standby. It is a set-and-leave camera: no network to join, no app to keep signed in, and nothing to recharge for six months.

It records 2304 x 1296 at 30fps across a 120 degree field of view, with infrared out to about 8m and a built-in microphone. PIR detection covers 5 to 8m and wakes it quickly, and plugged into mains it records continuously instead.

Where can I use this and stay within the law?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. How long does the battery really last?

Up to 180 days on standby with PIR triggered recording. That is standby time, not recording time: the more events it wakes for, the shorter it gets. Continuous 24/7 recording needs mains power.

Does it need WiFi or an app?

No. It is a standalone recorder, which is why it works in buildings with no network. The trade-off is that there is no live view: you review footage from the card.
