Description

The VIM-NOTEBOOK-4K is a zip-around notebook wallet, 190 x 98 x 35mm, with a camera module beside the zipper. It runs on a 2500mAh battery with no cable at all, so it can be set down on a desk or a shelf anywhere in a room of your own rather than only near a socket.

Live view streams at 4K to the Android or iOS app over your WiFi network, and recordings are saved at 1080p Full HD to a microSD card up to 128GB or to cloud storage. The battery gives about five hours, and there is room inside for a USB power bank when you need a longer session.

Features

No cable: a 2500mAh rechargeable battery gives about five hours, so placement is decided by the view rather than the wiring.
4K live, 1080p recorded: live view streams in Ultra HD; files written to the card are 1080p Full HD.
WiFi live view: joins your router over 802.11 b/g/n and streams to the free Android or iOS app from anywhere with internet.
Motion alerts: movement triggers recording and a pop-up notification to your phone.
Card or cloud: save locally to microSD up to 128GB, to cloud storage, or both.
Room for a power bank: a standard USB power bank inside the notebook extends recording well past five hours.
It works as a notebook wallet: the case is functional, so it earns the desk space it occupies.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Desk Or Shelf With No Socket

Rooms in your own home or office where the useful vantage point is nowhere near power. The battery removes the cable, and a power bank inside extends the session when you need a full day.

Cover That Moves With You

A space you are responsible for this week and a different one next week. Charge it, set it down, pick it up. Nothing is mounted and nothing is wired in.

Checking In From Elsewhere

Live view over your own WiFi while you are out, with motion alerts so you know when to look rather than watching an empty room.

How it Works

Charge it: charge the 2500mAh battery over USB, and add a USB power bank inside the case for a longer session.
Connect: install the free Android or iOS app and join the camera to your WiFi network.
Place and record: set it down facing the area you want covered, choose motion or continuous recording, and watch live or review from the card.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I use this and stay within the law?

You can record a space you own or control. Your own house, your own office or shop, a stockroom, a garage or a holiday house are all ordinary lawful uses and they are what this is sold for. The limits are worth setting up correctly from the start. The Privacy Act 2020 expects people to be told when a space is being recorded, so a notice at the entrance is the usual answer for any area that staff, visitors or contractors use. Bathrooms, changing areas and bedrooms are off limits, and intimate visual recording is an offence under the Crimes Act 1961. Audio is treated more strictly than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is a criminal offence. If the space is not yours to control, this is not the right device for it. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does it stream and record at the same quality?

No, and it is worth knowing which is which. Live view streams at 4K. What is saved to the card is 1080p, which keeps file sizes manageable.

How long does the battery last?

About five hours on the 2500mAh cell. A standard USB power bank placed inside the case extends that to a full day.

Where is the lens?

Beside the zipper, facing out from the front of the case.

What storage can I use?

A microSD card up to 128GB, cloud storage, or both. Cloud backup is worth having where the unit itself might be taken.

Will I get alerts?

Yes. Motion detection sends pop-up notifications to the app so you can look immediately rather than reviewing later.
